Safety Measures Tighten as Connecticut Tragedy Echoes Local Schools
New Castle district officials discuss security upgrades after a fatal Connecticut school shooting. A parent faced felony charges for shoving a principal while a suspect hid in a classroom after a basketball game. The district cites metal detectors at the junior senior high and event screenings, with ongoing reassessment and possible expansion to early learning centers. Wilmington Area schools emphasize electronic systems, cameras, drills, and rapid parent notifications, noting police collaboration and 24 hour building access for officers.
