The Washington Centre on North Mill Street signs a five year lease with two physical therapists, Robert Corefield and Richard Andrascik, to open Washington Centre Physical Therapy in the former Mr. A's store. The move marks the first new tenant since Dr. Ahmad E. Abu-Ela acquired the complex last December, signaling a potential downtown revival as vacancies decline. Shultz says funds transfer illegal during Iran Contra hearing

In Bamberg County South Carolina three adults were charged with neglect by a legal custodian after eight children aged 2 to 11 died in a house fire caused when a gas fueled attempt to rekindle a wood stove went wrong. Three siblings and mothers of several children face potential penalties up to one year in prison. The surviving two children were placed in state protective custody as investigators and the coroner labeled the incident a heartrending tragedy.

Surviving 13 year old rescued after plane crash in Nevada
A 13 year old girl survived more than 12 hours in freezing wreckage after a single engine Cessna 206 crash killed six near Las Vegas. She was flown to Valley Hospital in Las Vegas in fair condition with a fractured vertebra. The victim was from Stockton, California. Authorities released no names of the dead. The pilot reported fuel exhaustion as the plane headed toward Las Vegas, crashing into a mountain at about 4,500 feet. The teen sat near the tail and survived while others perished.

Pilot fights sharks after ditching off Key West
Walter W. Wyatt a 37 year old Homestead Florida pilot battled sharks for 16 hours after his vandalized private plane lost power and ditched near Cay Sal Banks between Cuba and Florida. Spotted by the Coast Guard Saturday he survived in a leaky life jacket until rescue. Wyatt had left Nassau for repairs and found instruments stolen before the flight.
