Woman Caught in Theft in Union Township
A 22 year old woman Janet C. Bockhammer of 21 W Clen-Moore Blvd was arrested in Union Township Friday night for shoplifting at Treasure Island store in Westpale plaza. She pleaded guilty before Justice of the Peace Harry Kerr and was fined 23 dollars and costs. Two 15 year old boys were arrested Saturday night on mischievous mischief charges after allegedly throwing a tire at a moving car driven by Ella Sumietong of 934 Morton St. The car hood and windshield were struck. The boys were released to their parents pending a hearing in juvenile court.

Youth charged with larceny in city case
An 18 year old city south was arrested by state police Saturday on a charge of larceny. Carl Winston McConnell of 810 Bivan Ave arrested in connection with a stereo stolen from Eppingers Service Station in Pulaski. The store has been recovered. McConnell was arraigned and posted 31,000 property trend. A hearing will be scheduled later this week. MITTSBURGH MPT union members rejected a two year contract. A $293,000 bridge project by Western Pennsylvania Construction is stalled due to the strike over the inner belt highway over Greeshannock Creek in New Castle.

Half of town burns in Maine fire
In Strong Maine residents gathered Sunday to survey the destruction after a general alarm fire on Saturday razed five stores in the town of 989. The two story wooden business block between the grocery and hardware store burned completely and ice coated the ruins as fire hoses froze to the ground. A sheriff’s office spokesman said there is nothing left and that the town will have to be rebuilt.

Explosion rocks Jamestown N Y village Celoron propane blast

United Press International reports Syrian troops killed or wounded 10 to 19 Israeli army engineers at the frontier in the Graeli occupied Golan Heights. A Damascus spokesman claimed Israeli engineers advanced to the boundary at 1 a.m. and construction work. Syrian tanks destroyed four bulldozers and an antitank gun with no Syrian casualties. Cairo said its forces met no resistance during a weekend raid across the Suez Canal, the longest and boldest since 1967, overrunning forts for 24 hours.

Steelworkers to get wage aid after layoffs in steel import squeeze
