Effingham Elks attempted a 200 pound wild boar grill using a rotisserie but fat and juices ignited a blaze. The fire damaged the rotisserie and a 15 foot sign as firefighters saved nearby First National Bank and Walgreen's. The event concluded with 22 pounds of charcoal and 15 cans of ham.
Erie Pennsylvania says a nationwide electrical workers strike cost General Electric a key railroad deal for 20 locomotives. Bryce Wyman, VP of GE's transportation division in Erie, cites uncertain delivery schedules as the reason and notes the customer, an important one, has turned to a major domestic competitor. Westinghouse Electric's contract extension remains in play after an aid agreement expired last month. The GE strike spans nine weeks.
Tony Nero, 22, of 21 Franklin Ave, pleaded innocent to a burglary charge before Alderman Howard B Hanna and was released on 1000 dollars bond. His case was waived into court after police arrested him on Liberty St following a burglary in progress at 209 E Cherry St. A car used by three men led to Nero’s capture while two accomplices escaped. two snow tires and a wheel were recovered from the car.
George Cionni was re elected president of the Lawrence County Young Democrats Club at a meeting in the New Penn Hotel. Other officers reelected for a one year term were Steve Gagliardo vice president Mildred Mastropietro secretary and Nick Navarra treasurer.
Piotr Vodrazka, 21, a Czechoslovak student, nearly froze in the baggage compartment of a Soviet plane from Prague to London. He emerged after landing at Heathrow and was granted permission to stay in Britain for at least one year.

Firemen reported a garage and contents at 931 Beckford Street sustained 1800 dollars in damage at 6 p m yesterday. Thomas Joseph was associated with the property and investigators suspect arson.
A knife-wielding bandit tried to rob 62 year old Ralph Miles on Atlantic Ave at 2 15 a m but found nothing in the wallet and fled toward W. Miles, of 2 Cliff St, reported the incident to police.
