Sunlight sheds on Earth weather link raised
At a UPI report from San Francisco the American Geophysical Union heard that solar activity may affect Earth's weather and perhaps extend drought in the West. Charles W Stockton of the University of Arizona linked major droughts to sunspot cycles, estimating droughts recur every 20 to 22 years with two years after a low sunspot point. The study, based on West tree rings back to 1700, suggests the current drought could last another year or two, alarming California agriculture and industry. Walter Roberts noted the search for a weather mechanism remains, urging top priority research.
