A car skidded off a bridge embankment on U S Highway 52 near the Indiana Ohio line killing five people. Albert Knight 36 of Chicago, wife Marie 35, son Charles 7, daughter Betty Jane 9, and niece Helen Darnell 18 from Dayton were passengers. The Knights were returning home after a Thanksgiving visit in Cincinnati. Darnell was to spend winter with them.
The House Ways and Means Committee's sub committee will propose drastic income tax law changes after a four month study. Proposals target stock market speculators and rich tax evaders to close loopholes disclosed in the report.
Dr Alice Lindsay Wynekoop collapsed in the infirmary while trying to move from a hospital cot to a wheelchair en route to arraignment on a murder charge. The 62 year old physician, weakened by a week in custody, was aided by jail staff and returned to bed as notice of her condition went to Chief Justice Sullivan.

Harrisburg December 4 Governor Pinchot sent a lengthy telegram urging Thomas W. Phillips Jr. to reconsider his refusal of the six year liquor control board appointment. Phillips has reported business pressures prevent acceptance while fellow appointees Gawthrop and Thompson begin issuing licenses.
Mr and Mrs Matthew Gunton deed 10 acres of wooded land in Neshannonck township north of Clenmore Avenue to the city for park purposes. The gift, received at City Hall, aims to preserve natural beauty and is to be developed with CWA workers. The council, led by Louis Genkinger, unanimously accepted the land and thanked the donors.
December 16 will be the exam day for applicants seeking positions in state controlled liquor stores with Dr. C. C. Green appointed chief examiner for Lawrence County by the State Department of Public Instruction. The Senate will consider a tax on all liquor exported after tomorrow, while the House awaits final action on brewery licensing fee hikes and a measure restricting the 1933 beverage law to malt liquor. The Zimmerman bill to remove alcohol content limits on beer moves forward and a Ziesenheim commission study is slated for final action.
Rita Gentry Bishop, 19, Chicago, is charged with bigamy after allegedly marrying Carl Bishop, a window trimmer, on September 18 and eloping with Saint S. Millard, a night club proprietor, on November 11. Millard filed the charge.

Public school district teachers in New Castle receive about $51,000 in pay today. City treasury reports show funds for two weeks, with another payday on December 15 before Christmas.
