John Bridges 56 was found at 1 10 p m in his Division and South Jefferson streets room with a gash on the forehead possibly from a hatchet or knife. He was taken to New Castle Hospital in critical condition as detectives investigate clues at the Greenville Dairy area.
Funeral services are arranged today for Robert Spanovich of Pittsburgh a thirteen year old boy killed Monday beneath the rear wheel of a dirt laden truck he and two other boys tried to hitch ride on. Danny ignored warnings as the driver turned causing a fatal injury.

A head on crash today between an automobile and a street car in Pittsburgh killed a man and a woman and injured two men. The deceased are Dr. Emmett D. Carmall, 53, a Pittsburgh physician, and Mrs Mildred Trainor of Pittsburgh. Both were in the car. The street car motorman and a passenger were injured.
Moscow dispatches indicate Premier Stalin may compromise with the west on Berlin. He reportedly prevented a Kremlin breakdown and helped a four power meeting be arranged in Berlin to discuss currency reforms. The plan suggests withdrawal of western marks and Soviet currency sole in the capital.
Harrisburg Aug 34 An estimated 282 400 Pennsylvanians will receive increased food and clothing relief effective October 1. The Department of Public Welfare announced new schedules and rental maintenance boosts to aid indigents in Delaware Philadelphia and Allegheny counties and other areas. Federal funds plus state contributions will fund higher relief, with food and fuel grants rising and maximum aid for fuel and rent increasing. Deputy Secretary Robert P. Wray noted this is the second boost since January.
