Railroads lag on key safety tech PTC progress
Washington AP report shows railroads vary in PTC rollout with nine percent of freight route miles and twenty two percent of passenger miles in operation. Some lines like SEPTA meet full PTC across locomotives towers and track, while New Jersey Transit and Metro-North show zero progress. The 2008 law extended deadline to 2018 with possible two year extensions. NTSB cites dozens of PTC related incidents and calls for quick adoption.
