Mrs Asher Hahn on South Broad Street entertained her 500 club last Wednesday evening. A luncheon was served and prizes were awarded to Mrs Mitchell, Mrs Bonstein, and Mrs Jacobs.
The Philadelphia Record exposed William A. Schnader as Attorney General who in 1931 ruled that 24 surety companies bonding State deposits could ignore bonds and have the State file a preference against closed banks. The move, tied to his client Independence Indemnity Co., faced reversal by Governor Pinchot amid conflict with Supreme Court rulings. The Record’s exposure led to full repayment to depositors, saving over 3.5 million dollars and protecting half a million depositors statewide.
Miss Mary Schultz aged 82 died at Northampton County Home Nazarath at midnight Friday. She had been admitted from Easton on February 26, 1932. She is survived by a sister Miss May Schultz of Easton.
