Dr. Frank Crane argues that class divisions cannot be solved by elevating one side or railing at others. He contends all movements for poorer classes harm in the long run and only universal human regard can cure the class evil. The class spirit, he says, is an ancient, deadly foe to happiness and requires generations of justice and truth to overcome.
In the March 1933 issue of Construction Methods Col Willard Chevalier argues that businesses cut payrolls to survive while many rely on public relief. He distinguishes two public payrolls, praising those that create value and discourage dependence, and condemning pure charity. He asserts private and public works payrolls both serve the public and that even essential relief should be balanced with employment, urging a preference for productive payrolls over dole.
George Dusinski 26 died at Allentown Hospital after a crash on the Nazareth Bath road. Five other young men were injured when the left front tire blew out, sending the car into a pole. Driver Robert Chapman 19 and five Nazareth residents were treated, with Chapman most seriously hurt. A coroner's inquest may follow. state police investigate. Dusinski survived by a mother and siblings, with funeral services held Saturday.
The Moravian Church choir and orchestra rehearse Theodore Dubois cantata The Seven Last Words of Christ and perform it next Sunday evening at 7 30 with over fifty choir voices and eighteen orchestral parts. The service emphasizes worship rather than concert form, with soloists from Bethlehem and local singers and instrument players listed among the participants.
The Northampton County Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs met in the Farmers' Mutual Insurance Company office with Francis Mack of Bethlehem presiding. Delegates discussed pheasant and trout stocking, April 15 opening of trout season, April 24 hosting by Lappawinzo Association, and legislative actions on hunting dog training, license periods, and land for recreation via unpaid taxes.
Ralph Itterly, 26, sustained body burns while washing his automobile when a mariner short circuited. He is confined to the home of his parents Mr and Mrs Calvin Itterly on East North street in town.
The degree team of the Daughters of America met at the home of captain Mrs Anna Milhelm with 16 members present. Vice-president Mrs Grace Pike presided. Minutes by Sadie Kern. Drill rehearsal moved to April 18 with a district meeting in New Tripoli. Social hour followed with contests won by Beatrice Price and Dorothy Schoenberger. Beatrice Price read humorously. Next meeting at Mrs Carrie Holland with entertainment by Katie Weaver and Mary Fogel. Refreshments served by Mrs Milheim.
Word has been received that the annual State Senatorial Scholarship examination under the Department of Public Instruction will be held at Easton High School on Friday May 5 1933. Eligible county candidates must be listed by April 15 1933 and late names may miss admission.
Nazareth residents learn that Dr. Ella Marion Young of Bangor will devote Fridays to serving the region. A Pen Argyl High School and West Chester State College alumna, she trained at Temple University and in Philadelphia Chiropody offices. Her main office is 13 16 South Main Street Bangor. She will practice in Nazareth at E J Anangst & Sons store each Friday from 2 to 5 PM.
Mr and Mrs Thomas Oplinger of town were honored at a dinner Sunday at their son Norman Oplinger in Bath to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. Present were Mrs Harry Michael Mrs Charles Welty Tilghman Oplinger Bath Mrs Frank Gold and Mr and Mrs Thomas Oplinger town.
The Board of Health held its monthly meeting at the Municipal Building. Twenty scarlet fever cases and four chicken pox cases were reported. General sanitation was discussed and the health officer instructed to enforce quarantine regulations for scarlet fever.
Nazareth baseball players and fans are invited to a Nazareth Athletic Association booster meeting on Tuesday April 4 at 8 p.m. in the YMC. Aimed at forming a strong home team this season, the group seeks local players and community support with opening day planned for April 22 at Hall field. A pre-meeting for players from Nazareth and nearby areas is set for Sunday April 2 at 2:30 p.m. in the association club rooms.
Eas ton hosts Nazareth Northampton Bath and Easton councils for the annual Young People's Conference of county Sunday Schools. R A Waite of the American Youth Foundation and E H Bonsall Jr spoke on The Christian Mission in the World Today and economic challenges. The Nazareth District won the largest registration with 43 youths. Northampton 42 followed. Officers were elected including Wilson Hartzell as president and Leila Houser as vice president. The event closed with The Unlighted Cross and benediction by Bensall.
Northampton County has received funds to buy garden seeds and fertilizer. Registration for the unemployed and worthy from Nazareth, Cherry Hill, Bushkill Center, Moorestown, Heck Town, and nearby areas will occur at Nazareth Y M C A on March 30 and 31. Distribution will follow seed arrival.

A duck dinner at the home of Mr and Mrs Joseph Wagner honored Mr and Mrs Thomas Hoffman of East Center street on their fortieth wedding anniversary March 19. Attendees included M A Hoffman and family Violet Thomas Meryle Ella Frankenfield Harvey Grey Ella Gutekunst Mabel Leh Dorothy Nagle Thos Hoffman Joseph Wagner and their children Darcia George and Robert of town.
Friends of Granville Beck formerly of town now of Reading report he was in an automobile accident and suffers painful serious injuries. This marks the second auto accident injury for Beck within recent years.
Nazareth Athletic Association reorganizes to back Nazareth and local youths with another year of baseball holding a card party next Thursday evening April 6 in Babp's Hall. Tickets are available ahead of time and invitations extend to the public.
Rotarians from the fifty district of Rotary International gather in Allentown April 23 to 25 with ten clubs in Delaware twenty in New Jersey and forty four in Pennsylvania to discuss club problems civic responsibilities and Rotary extension Nearly fifty three conferences are held in the US and Canada this spring drawing over fifty thousand attendees The sessions feature talks by David J Reese and district governor C Edgar Dreher Topics include community service vocational service for Rotarians the Boys Work and Crippled Children Work A nominating process selects the district governor for the following year under President Clinton P Anderson Rotary aims to boost human relations and international goodwill among 150000 Rotarians across 60 nations.
The monthly children's service at St John’s Lutheran Church drew a large crowd both morning and evening. The Junior choir of 32 mixed voices directed by Charles Schnerr led the morning singing with The Heavens Declare Thy Glory. Daniel Rohn played the organ as Pastor H C Snyder preached on The Olive Tree to the junior congregation. In the evening Rev Snyder spoke on Parental Responsibility as the Senior choir performed I was Glad When They Said Unto Me. attendance was strong despite weather conditions.
The Rotarians met Monday at the YMCA with Ladies Night. Rev Diehl and William Shimer led the program while Ted Collins of Allentown spoke on the benefits of Rotary. Guest Earl Peters summarized district conference plans for Allentown April 23 24 25.
Whitfield council 183 Daughters of America met in Eagle Hall with Mary Fogel presiding. Mabel Voorhees added to sick list. Helen Miller and Lucy Remaley reported improved by relief committee. Delegates to district meeting at New Tripoli on April 4 arranged. About 200 rural teachers gathered Saturday in the High School auditorium for the Teachers Institute. The program opened at 9 with county superintendent George Grim, followed by songs led by R N Taylor and prayers by Rev G M Shultz. Professors Crown and Wright spoke on teaching subjects, community ties, and geography, stressing individualized instruction and teacher roles.
Only two days remain for motor vehicle owners to complete the biannual mechanical inspection. The January 1 to March 31 period ends at midnight Friday and enforcement will arrest owners lacking proof of inspection. Keystone club safety director E P Curran cites Harrisburg reports that fewer than three fourths of vehicles have been inspected.
