A reflection on poverty of resources as the root of suffering. The author quotes Dr. Frank Crane arguing the truly poor lack inner riches such as faith, discipline, friends, work, time, and beauty. He warns that without external means the soul cannot flourish and despair grows as resources run dry.
A variety shower at the Edelman home in Edelmans honored the upcoming marriage of their daughter to Albert of Bangor. Attendees included Mrs. Flick Mrs. Russell Lance Nancy and Gerald Mr and Mrs Knecht and many others from Nazareth Bangor Flicksville Plainfield and surrounding towns. A luncheon was served and door prizes awarded as the group gathered for the occasion.
The Nazareth Chamber of Commerce held a Monday directors meeting led by President E C Champion. Directors named include Trumbower Martin and Schmidt with two L N E R R representatives. Committees approved cover executive membership industries merchants appearance entertainment and public utilities with details and officers listed. The All Member Dinner is set for April 26 at Nazareth Inn to discuss the year’s program and tax status reports.
Mr and Mrs John Seibold marked fifty years of marriage with a celebration at their daughter’s home on Main Street Tatamy. They wed March 17 1883 in Nazareth and started life in Forks Township before blacksmithing and later living with their daughter. Mrs Seibold also celebrated her 70th birthday the preceding week amid greetings from friends.
Mr and Mrs Charles Basley celebrated their twenty eighth wedding anniversary quietly at home with a visit to Clearfield guests Mr and Mrs Floyd Barthel who hosted a dinner featuring a large ornate wedding cake. In youth activities Troop 32 Scouts met at the YMC A with colors paraded by Frank Heintzelman and Robert Freeman.
A session titled Rural Schools at the Crossroads will be discussed at the Teachers Institute on Saturday March 26 at the local High School. Dr Lee L Driver director Rural Schools Division State Department of Public Instruction will lead the program. A second speaker is listed as Mr J continued but unreadable in the fragment.
Shambach of the State Department will speak on The Rural, School and the Community. The program for Northampton County rural school teachers includes devotional exercises, talks by Prof. L. R. Drown Dir. J. Shambach Dir. Lee Driver, Prof. Harold B. Thomas, and Dr. I. M. Wright. The event is scheduled for Saturday at Nazareth High School.
Nazareth Rod and Gun Club held a directors meeting at the Y M C A with John Knecht presiding. Directors present included Clinton Bunn Joseph Schlegel Paul Searles R Nolf Clayton Vogel Howard Uh ler Don Detweiler and Paul Davis son. Reports from secretary and committee heads were read and plans made for spring and summer activities. game and fish will be stocked in surrounding districts in line with club practices.
Nazareth High School's Class of 1933 plans the publication of the Comet yearbook to be issued at June commencement. Editor in chief Virginia Shankweiler leads a staff including Hannah Johnson Conrad Tripp Ruth Hughes Walter Pus her Mildred Lapp Elma Hordendorf Robert Schiery Clifford George Hilda Hello William Steigerwalt Jake Editors Paul Peters Wilson Stettler and others. Price is 1.50 with orders to senior class members Maybelle Happel business manager and Betty Barie Herbert Haas assist.
Local Rotarians gathered at the Y M C A for a dinner meeting with William sil fles presiding. Ezra E Fetzger of Allentown served as guest speaker delivering a talk on The Destiny in Life of an Individual. Next week Ladies Night will feature Rev W H Diehl and Ted Collins of Allentown as guest speakers.
A pleasant birthday party was held Monday evening at W. I. Golds home 133 North Broad street for Mrs. Mary Landis of Bath. Mrs. Landis in good health has reached 78 and received many handsome gifts. Out-of-town guests included Professor Fred Smucker Miss Verna Bachman and Mrs Emma Bachman of Allentown.
Mrs. Eugene Trein will speak at the Evangelical church Sunday at 7 30 P M on Daniel's Prophetic Image. The Trone family will perform instrumental music and other numbers. The occasion is Temperance Sunday with all friends invited.
The general objective is to raise farmers purchasing power by restoring balance between production and consumption and adjusting markets quickly. The Secretary of Agriculture gains powers to reduce acreage or production, enter marketing agreements, license processors and distributors, regulate them to curb unfair practices, apply the Smith Cotton option plan to the 1933 crop, and impose processing taxes to restore prewar price parity. The Secretary will convene producer and processor representatives for each action.
Tony Ezstezine of Nazareth died at Easton Hospital after injuries from a train strike beside the Nazareth Cement Company plant on Saturday. Found by Tony Bolas, he had his left arm amputated at the shoulder and did not recover.
About 135 men of St. John's Reformed Church met in the social rooms for their monthly fellowship. The session opened with an invocation by acting president Howard Shimer. J. B. McGinley of Phillipsburg spoke on Industry and Its Relation to Present Conditions, after a silent prayer for Dr. W. H. Wotring. The next meeting will be April 18.

Members Kern Bennett Ziegler Leh Martin and Miss Beck attend while Hawk is absent. The Secretary of the Treasury grants a one week extension for parties who withdrew gold to redeposit it. The new expiration date is Monday, March 27. Banks report heavy deposits since the Bank Holiday and thank the community for patience during the enforced holiday.

Mr and Mrs John Knecht hosted a Sunday dinner celebrating the birthday of their grandson John Knecht. Attendees included Mr and Mrs John Gensinger and daughter Hannah Mountainville Mr and Mrs Wilhelm Knecht and sons Roderick and John Miss Anna Weisheit and Jacob Knecht.
The Nazareth Taxpayers League met at Eagle Hall Monday evening to hear Assistant District Attorney William Frack discuss how Northampton County’s District Attorney’s Office operates. The talk touched on compliance with the current emergency as advocated by some citizens.
The Central Eastern District Y M C A Secretaries held a meeting at the local Y M C A with William Harper as host. J Wells of Easton presided as officers were elected for the year including J Edward Reading as president E High Allentown as vice president and William Harper as secretary and treasurer. The convention theme was Adequate Publicity for the Y M C A with John A Brodhead of Lehigh University as main speaker. P Dix state secretary and J Wells Easton spoke on secretarial work. The next meeting will be in Pottsville on May 9 1933.
