Tuesday evening’s Popular Baby Contest count tightens the race for the silver loving cup and $150 in cash. Leaders set a fast pace and any contestant could lead in the next count as interest grows among families and neighbors. The next showing is Friday evening February 4 at 8 o’clock after which results will be published.
Attendance was strong at Nasareth Choral Society rehearsals at the Y. Under new director Ellis Schneebeli work began on short selections for the Sprint Concert in May. The group seeks many male voices and will feature the Glo-Worm ballad for mixed voices. membership remains open. Officers of the Parent Teachers Association plan a February 17 program with Girl and Boy Scouts participating.
Several hundred people attended the Presidents Birthday Ball in the Odd Fellows building hosted by the Womens Democratic Club on Saturday night. Dancing on the second floor and cards on the third floor provided entertainment with prizes awarded to Clara Meyers Lillie Daheker Hannah Bonstein Rose Schnerr Anna Wil wensen Martha Meyers Mrs. Clinton Kern Ralph Frantz Sarah Knecht Marjorie Kleppinger Nelda Sisolak Mrs. A. Readers are invited to vote for their babies in the Nazareth Item contest. Ballots are collected at the contest headquarters and at participating stores. The fifth counting will occur Friday February 4 at 8 p m. Baby entries listed alphabetically as of Wednesday noon with cash prize planned for March 2.
A large oil mural by Ruth Ludins of New York City now decorates Nazareth’s post office wall, depicting a modern cement plant from quarry to kiln. The eleven by four foot work traveled weeks of study, was applied with an assistant, and will receive varnish coats after drying to symbolize Nazareth’s chief industry.
Last Thursday at the home of Dr and Mrs W H Wotring a dinner honored Mrs Amanda E Trumbower on her 30th birthday anniversary born January 27 1649 in Upper Nazareth Township. She has three children four grandchildren and two great grandchildren with ties to Nazareth Bethlehem and Chicago.
Mr. and Mrs. Asher Hagenbuch entertained guests Sunday at their South Main Street residence. Attendees included Mrs Emma Houck, Mr and Mrs George Widdicombe and son Billy, Robert Everitt of Allentown, Mr and Mrs Arthur Everitt and daughter Dorothy of Belfast, Mrs Nettie Serfass and daughter Emma Jane and son Clark, Miss Susan Hagenbuch, Miss Gertrude Everitt, and Mr and Mrs Asher Hagenbuch and sons Paul and Edmund.
Announcement for the St. Joan's Reformed Church Men’s League meeting held on Tuesday February 8 with supper at 6 30 promptly. Miss Emily Ruch of Hecktown visited Miss Josephine Edelman on Walnut Street over the weekend.
Second Semester students at Nazareth schools started Tuesday. Holidays planned for the term include Washington's Birthday February 22 Easter holidays April 14 to 18 and Memorial Day May 30. The term ends June 22 with 22 February school days, 23 in March, 18 in April, 21 in May and 16 in June.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Y M C A held their annual covered dish supper and business session in the Y M C A dining hall. Officers were elected including Mrs. Nathan Brobst as president and Miss Henrietta Frantz as first vice president.
Members of the Past Grands Club of Elizabeth File Lodge No. 570 Order of Rebekahs gathered at Mrs. Carrie Alpaugh’s home on South Main Street for an evening of a brief business session followed by a card social and refreshments. Attending were Mrs. Carrie Hagenbuch Cornelia Pritchman Jennie Kubilus Mary Fritchman E Louise Knecht Pauline Huber Clara Andrews Ellen Weaver Lena Hagenbuch Bertha Reph Helen Shafer Bertha Brong Rosa Siegfried Elsie Smith and the hostesses Mrs. Alpaugh and Mrs. Kraemer.
Mrs William Shimer and Mrs H P Yelsley hosted ten tables of cards at Shimer home on South Main Street for the Nazareth Republican Council of Women. Delicious refreshments followed the games with prizes awarded to eight participants including Mrs Hilda Shafer and Mrs Anna Bittenbender.
The Senior Luther Leagues of the Allentown District sponsor the St Olaf Lutheran Choir for a concert at Allentown High School Auditorium on Thursday evening February 10 at 8 30 o clock. Tickets from Miss Miriam Anangst, president of the Senior Luther League of St John's Lutheran Church.
George A Sundberg began in banking at Corn Exchange Bank and Trust Co New York City after six years in various departments he joined International Acceptance Bank of New York City. He joined First National Bank of Oradell New Jersey as Assistant Cashier in 1928 and later became Cashier at Second National Bank Nazareth. He attended Union Hill High School and the American Institute of Banking where he served as officer and graduate. His wife is Dorothy Walker of Nazareth.
Rev. N. M. Cressman, a returned missionary, will present slides on French Indochina on Thursday through Saturday at the Mennonite Brethren in Christ Church on South Broad Street. He will discuss motives and stories behind the habits and give an address from a large chart on the book of Revelations Sunday at 2 15 PM.
A surprise party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Emerick Nagy for Miss Anna Nagy’s birthday. Attendees included Tessie Vondrisovitz Rose Deutsch Margaret Didovits Catherine Didovits Agnes Magaditch Mary Magaditch Anna Karlo vitz Rose Karlovitz Catherine Lohn Mary Kavcak Anna Nagy and many Nagy family members.
The Foreign Mission program, founded a century ago by Rev. Benjamin Schneider, will be presented to two churches of the Moore Township charge on Sunday February 6. Emanuel Church Petersville hosts at 9 a.m. and Christ Church Little Moore at 10:05 a.m. A layman will deliver the message. The organist election at Christ Church, set for this Sunday, has been postponed.
Superintendent Dr Lester K Ade notes February, the shortest month, as rich in anniversaries for recognition in public schools. He cites presidents George Washington and others among twenty notable February anniversaries including educators scientists inventors and authors.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt will speak Monday evening as Honorary President of the Boy Scouts of America. More than a million listeners nationwide will hear the broadcast as leaders and scouts gather around radio sets to hear the message from the nation’s wartime leader and longtime Scouting supporter.
The fourth count lists Regina Hagenrach to Ned R. Barlieb as the top twenty five finalists with two weeks of high credits ahead. The next tally is scheduled for Friday February 4 at 8 pm as the field narrows toward eight winners.
