Nazareth residents and nearby shoppers receive more resources as Christmas Club checks go out. The Nazareth National Bank and Trust Company mailed checks to members last Saturday, with Second National Bank sending theirs yesterday. Both banks run Christmas Saving Clubs and expect higher enrollment for 1938.
Washington reports that Owen D. Young and Gerard Bwope, heads of General Electric and related holdings, drew 146000 each with Appleton at 45250. Securities and Exchange Commission released figures after confidential treatment appeals. Other companies listed include General Refactories, Hygrade Food Products, and Loone-Wiles Biscuit, detailing executive pay for 1936.

Nazareth High and Wilson Borough High battled to a scoreless Thanksgiving Day tie on Wilson field. Nazareth, led by Leh Barton coaching, held Wilson to five first downs and a string of interceptions, while Nazareth managed three completions to Wilson’s one. The game ended as Wilson threatened near Nazareth’s 3 yard line after a punt recovery before Nazareth’s final interception.
The biennial Young Democrats of Pennsylvania convention is set for June 17-18 in Erie. Executive committee meeting in Harrisburg approved the program with registrations starting June 16, plus committee work on Friday and delegate sessions Saturday. Governor Earle may lead the grand march at the closing program. Maurice J. Coughlin will head the general arrangements committee. A membership drive will begin after the new year.
New York reports show increased and special dividend payments ahead as firms seek to dodge the federal tax on undistributed earnings. Christiana Securities Co. leads with a final 1937 quarterly dividend of 39.30 a share, lifting the year’s total to 119.80 a share. The firm, once the du Pont Securities Co., was created in 1915 to hold a large du Pont stock block. Elmer Serfass, South Broad Street, spends a week at his Pike County bungalow.

The Marionette Club of Naza reth Junior High School sponsors a program by the Lessells Marionettes of Camel California. The play Pinocchio runs Tuesday evening December 7 at 7 30 in the high school auditorium with an amateur hour circus including tap dances a darky prima dona and a juggling monkey and balancing bear. Tickets are sold by club members.
Scout Troop 1 departed Saturday morning at 5 00 for New York City aboard Kripple bus line. Captain Beatrice Carmel and Lieut. Katherine Rupp led the trip with chaperones Mrs. Roslyn Fortuin Mrs. Harry King Mrs. George Heimer and others among the group of Troop III and Troop II guests. The outing was enjoyed by all.
Miss Margaret J Kunkel daughter of Mr and Mrs William D Kunkel Bath was united in marriage Saturday last to William F W Jones son of Mrs Edyth Jones Willie Barre. The ceremony was at Holy Communion Lutheran Church Bath with Rev Ralph Kerstetter and Rev J Henry Harms officiating. The bride wore a ivory velvet gown and veil, carried white chrysanthemums, and wore a pearl necklace from the groom. Attendants included Miss Martha Jones and Findley Campbell best man and ushers from Philadelphia. Dinner and reception at Benjamin Franklin Hotel Philadelphia. The couple plan to reside in Philadelphia after December 15 at Calvert House 4043 Baltimore Ave. Both graduates of University of Pennsylvania. Mr Jones works in State Banking Department. Kenneth Shankweiler of Hello visited Sunday.
Final Nazareth District Red Cross report shows total contributions of 1481.20 up 101.79 from 1936. District chairman Mrs. Fred D. Heckman lists 1305 in membership and 176.20 in donations, thanking Nazareth and nearby communities for generous support. The district again surpasses its quota and expresses pride in the progress.
Wallace V. Hess, a prominent young man, has enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and is stationed at Langley Field, Old Point Comfort, Virginia. He enlisted for three years and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank B. Hess. A Nazareth High School graduate, Class of 1933, his last farewell to Nazareth came on Thanksgiving Day when he flew in a plane over the town and surrounding areas.
Harrisburg residents will share in over 33 million of a 920 million distribution to more than 6.5 million savers across 4500 banks nationwide. New York leads, Massachusetts third, with funds allocated to holiday purchases, savings, taxes, year end commitments, mortgage interest, insurance premiums, and travel charity totaling about 320 thousand dollars per state.
The Northampton County Baby Beef and Lamb Feeding clubs round-up is set for Tuesday at the Fogel Farm in Lower Nazareth Township. County Agent B L Coleman leads, with P C MacKenzie of Pennsylvania State College to judge and award in lamb and baby beef classes. Lamb pens number 26 with 15 advancing to the State Farm Products Show. calf and lamb feeders include Elwood and Lela Buss, Fogel family members, Fehnel, Hower, Reichard, Jewell, and others. Calves fed are Aberdeen Angus, weighed in the morning and judged at 1:30 by MacKenzie.
A Christmas Bazaar will be held in the Moravian Church social rooms on Tuesday evening December 7 at 7 30. Home made cakes candies cookies fancy work jewelry pottery and Christmas gift articles will be sold. The Junior Choir will sing Christmas carols at various times during the evening. The Bazaar is being held by the Silver Cross Kings Daughters.

William Harper 57 a longtime Nazareth resident and YMCA secretary was found dead in the YMCA basement. Stewart Bady discovered the body at 10:20 am. Dr. E A N Seyfried and coroner Dr. W Cal Nickel ruled death by self-inflicted pistol wound. Harper, once with Allen Street Railway, leaves wife Anna and daughters Renee and Naomi, with two brothers. Funeral plans not yet announced.
The Northampton County Dramatic Tournament will be held in Nazareth High School Auditorium on Friday evening December 3. Three groups present one act plays: Forks Township PTA with The Florist Shop directed by Mrs George Heller. Raubsville PTA with Pink For Proposal directed by Mrs Martin Raub. Forks Church with Andante directed by Mrs Harry Lichtenwalner. The event is run by Northampton County Agricultural Extension Service as part of a state wide adult recreation plan.
The deer season opens in Pennsylvania with over half a million licensed hunters heading into the woods. Early sightings show many bagging the legal one buck limit, while interest grows from out of state with about 10,000 nonresident licenses issued. County records and favorable weather and road access are noted as boosting expected yields, with season slated to close December 11.

Miss Martha Simmons of 220 Washington Street Nazareth has been named to the girls varsity basketball team of East Stroudsburg State Teachers College. A senior in health education she has played on the varsity squad for three years while student teaching at East Stroudsburg High School. She maintains involvement in intramural and varsity athletics and began her sports career at Nazareth High School.

Harrisburg reports plans for a statewide Wassermann Week led by Dr Edith MacBride Dexter. Beginning January 3, free blood tests for syphilis will be offered at depots statewide with numbered slips for identification and a duplicate attached to specimens. Results arrive about a week later.
