Nakusp British Columbia advertises a bar stocked with the finest wines liquors and cigars. The Divine Room offers seasonable delicacies and guests enjoy a grand boating fishing and sketching district nearby. Moderate charges and a beautiful country view accompany the location on Slocan Ave.
The Goat Canyon Placer Mining Co. narrowly escaped loss of two members when heavy rains flooded a dam on Cariboo Creek. Shareholders noted sluice boxes washed away and pay dirt struck before the dam failed. Nakusp Mining Co. reports ongoing claims and new quartz strikes awaiting assay results.
C G Dixon, popular general agent in the passenger department, returned to Spokane after an extended tour of mining camps. He reports rising activity and general business improvement across the region. Mines are hiring more men as confidence grows. At Pilot Bay the smelter works are rushing to complete buildings and prepare to receive ore and fire the plant in a few days.
R Madden sells his interest in Madden House to McGeary making McNeill and McGeary partners in the business. Nakusp House gains new leaseholder Mrs Whyte of Hastings Hotel BC with renovations and first class fittings. She plans to run the inn for transient guests at 2 to 2 50 per diem and will take possession October 1 hosting a house warming.
B Wrede's hotel at Lardeau is for sale at 1020 dollars after costing 5000 dollars. A Garland is building a handsome store at Front and Fourth streets Kaslo. H Giegerich plans a large store and others contemplate similar improvements.
Nakusp weekly ore shipments from the Alpha mine on Four Mile Creek total about 310 tons in three carloads per day. The ore, consigned to Omake Neb, comes via railway with 600 tons already moved and over 400 tons remaining, likely sustaining traffic for weeks. Proceeds will cover bond payments on the McNaught and McKenzie property. The release manifest values ore at 100 dollars per ton, likely understated.
A general meeting in Vancouver re elected the old board of the Burrard Inlet and Fraser Valley Railway Company with C D Rand as president and D S Wallbridge as secretary treasurer. Contracts for construction are to be let with the president empowered to finalize deals with Vancouver and New Westminster regarding a bonus. It is rumored McGillivray and Keefer of Vancouver will secure the contract, and work is to begin before year end.
