Fire Valley Bear Fight Tops Prospecting Trip News

Mr McLeany reports staking a quarter acre at Mineral Creek head while crops, especially potatoes, look strong in the valley. Woolley and Kerby return from a mountains trip, fighting smoke and flies. En route they encounter a band of bears and three grizzlies, plus one black bear. they shoot and kill the entire band, one grizzly taking ten bullets. This is declared the season’s best bear fight.

First ore shipment signals railway era in region

Fifteen tons of ore from the Alpha mine arrived Monday with sixty more tons next day marking the first ore shipped via the Na KaiP & Slocan railway. A total of 709 tons from the same mine will follow. Ore exits the district through Revelstoke as three claims near Cariboo Creek BC are expected to reach bed rock this week. John Ieer reports assays of 35 to the ton from gas rock on Mineral Creek, likely a free milling proposition worth pursuing.
