Funeral service Monday at 2 PM at Church of the Brethren with Rev Marion Stern. burial in Norway cemetery. Survived by daughter Sylvia Averill and several sons and brothers. born July 9 1867 in Indiana, came to Coos County in 1874.

More Wool To Be Available In Wartime Wardrobe
War clothing supplies will expand this fall and winter after WPB and war department actions. Millions of woolen garments and blankets will be released to civilians, and army procurements of key worsted woolen items will drop by half in the final four months. Extra slide fasteners will resume from distress stocks, and prices for women, children, and outerwear will hold steady or fall. Shoes for civilians will rise in output for boys, misses, children, and infants, with stronger men’s work shoe production as tests on sole treatment oils proceed. Cpl Frank L. Ward returned to camp after a 20 day furlough, visiting Myrtle Point, Tenmile, and Roseburg, after serving with engineers on the Alcan highway. He is the son of Mrs. Gertrude Ward and brother to several, with more Ward brothers in service.

Union High School Community Cannery has installed an electric tomato juicer to handle a bushel of tomatoes every 15 minutes for thick juice. In two and a half months 240 families canned over 26 000 cans of vegetables meats and fruit, totaling about 20 009 quarts, twice previous output. Plans include venison burger meat grinder and precooking stove, with storage via Ed Webb and seasonal operation on Monday Wednesday Friday.

Alice L Dement daughter of Mr and Mrs Taylor Dement formerly of Myrtle Point has been commissioned lieutenant junior grade in the USNR at Northampton Massachusetts after two months training. She will command part of WAVES training at the Bureau of Personnel in Washington DC and is a graduate of Myrtle Point Union High School and Stanford University.
