Fire at Corner Home Causes Smoke and Pillow Loss

Monday noon smoke issued from the second story of a home at the corner of Fifth and Willow. Mrs Josephine Neal notified the fire department. Firemen carried bedclothes from an upstairs bed and tossed them from a window. only pillows, mattress, and bedclothes were damaged, insured.

Wilmer Northup formerly resident here now in Eureka California was thrown from his bicycle while returning home from school and admitted to a Eureka hospital. Three teeth were broken and a possible liver injury may keep him in bed for three weeks but his condition improved and he is out of danger.

The law extension through December 31 depends on weather and governors proclamation. Future Farmers At Exposition This Weekend

More than 600 FFA members from Washington Idaho California Utah and Oregon will take part in the Pacific International Livestock Exposition in Portland October 1 and 2. Over 130 towns are expected in daily and meat judging contests at the Pacific International building Saturday morning October 2. The contest results and 32 banners will be presented at Penny Hall that evening. Northwest FFA meeting details and reports from each state will be delivered at the Maczonic temple Friday night. Alumni public speaking contest is on the program with awards totaling 180 dollars for top alumni from Oregon Idaho and Washington. Myrtle Point judging team members are Wayne Jenning Eugene Reed Eugene Bartlett and Eldon Hermann substitute. The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce sponsors the trip with a cash incentive noted in local coverage.

Myrtle Point Vocational students led Coos County contest with 10 of 16 placings. $100 prize split among four groups. first group each $10, others scaled to $7.50 $6 and $3.50. Elk Herd Roars Near Lookout At Brewster Rock

Mrs Rollie Alford reports 15 to 20 elk surrounded the Brewster Rock lookout last week and roared for a day and night causing fear. Hunters in eastern Oregon fared poorly for deer while many travelers visited southeastern Oregon to view antelope and elk.
