The 34 foot log from Remote’s sands creek area weighed heavy at 9 860 board feet and sold for $72 600. Logger F W George Boles cut it, with trucker Tuffy Bryant noting it as his largest haul in 20 years.
After a Mexico trip we return to Myrtle Point for a large Lions club dinner at Coquille Valley Country Club hosted by Mayor Ted Tedsen of Norway. The event featured a cafeteria service with abundant dishes and desserts, and Ted aims to hold it annually with 600 guests for 1951 to raise funds for Myrtle Point Boy Scout projects. His Honor Harold Ross of Mexico City attended as a guest. Continued on Page Two.

Parents urged to register their children at the junior high school Friday. The office of Mr Paul Pei Pam Lee asked guardians to bring required forms and fees to the school in the afternoon for enrollment.

The Coos County Shrine club sponsored the first annual college football classic in Coos Bay for Shrine hospital for crippled children in Portland. The event drew a crowd over four thousand and raised more than fifty five thousand dollars. Dignitaries including Herman Mayberry and Earl T Newbry attended the parade led by Hillah temple band and patrol drill team. Four high school bands participated along with Shrines and players.
The Powers volunteer fire department responded to a Tuesday morning alarm at the Gilbert Lumber mill. Firemen reached the acetylene welding area in time to prevent major damage, limiting the blaze to minor affectations thanks to quick action by the crew.
A World War II veteran, suffering from an ailment, was taken to Portland by his sister and brother-in-law Mr and Mrs Lawrence Brady for medical care as the war ended.
