The Herald asks W. R. Davenport, chairman of the Coos county Rural school board, to write a letter explaining the Children's Bill and its impact on financing the growing school system. Davenport has worked on the proposition for two years and will detail its purpose and benefits to property owners.
The Oregon Game Commission issued details on a two day hunter choice deer season October 21 and 22. It covers western Oregon cultivated lands within one mile of farms and certain eastern counties outside national forest boundaries. The program targets deer causing agricultural damage and mule deer on winter ranges, with emphasis on areas where crop loss is most severe.
Coos County residents gathered at the Coquille Community building to hear Governor Douglas McKay and Morris Ellsworth discuss county civil defense amid national and international tensions. They urged extra funds to reflect rising enrollment and noted a $30 per census child boost could offset property taxes.
