Postal Rate Hike Approved for 1963 Increases

The Postal Rate and Civil Service committee on Monday approved a 96 03 million postal rate rise and a 1 064 billion pay hike for 1.6 million federal workers. The plan, to be debated in the Senate, schedules a Jan 7 1963 effective date with letters rising from 4 to 5 cents and postcards from 3 to 4 cents. Air mail postage would move to 6 cents and air mail cards to 6 cents, while the overall pay boost totals about 860 million dollars.

House Approves Call for Reservists Amid Cuban Crisis

The House granted President Kennedy standby power to activate 150000 military reservists. The Senate had unanimously approved the resolution on Sept 13. Chairman Carl Viemon of the Armed Services committee called the move part of the response to Cuba.

TB Testing in Schools in Myrtle Point and Powers

Coos County health department and the Tuberculosis and Health association announced free immunization and tuberculin testing for students in grades one four seven nine and 18 in Myrtle Point and Powers.
