In mid August two large winged birds, a pair of Canada Geese migrating early, were spotted near Remote. The foggy morning caused a high glare as the tired birds circled and prepared to alight, likely landing near the family farm after days of migration.

The McClellan Lumber Co sawmill, burned May 4, is back in action with a new auto mill capable of about 45 000 feet of lumber daily. First carload shipped Monday, Irwin Lions Co of Coos Bay to handle output. McClellan and sons cleared debris and started rebuild with Drake Brothers of Coquille directing construction.
Large attendance at Coos County Racing at the Coos Bay fairgrounds Sunday with overflows filling the south bleachers. Larry Ollinger of Myrtle Point won the 35 lap main event sponsored by Ike Isham's Union Service station as cars from local sponsors competed amid dramatic crashes and spills. Noel Seltz escaped a rollover uninjured as spectators witnessed a day of high speed turns and daring driving.
Eight days remain to register for the November election. Registration is free and available at listed county offices and stores across Coos County from Oct 4 to the final day Saturday, Oct 4, with extended hours at the Coos County Courthouse and Nick Perkins office to aid registrants.

The Presbyterian Church hosts Promotion Day and a Sunday School rally with a "Soldiers For Christ" program featuring armored soldiers and knights. Rehearsal is set for 10 o clock Saturday morning due to an afternoon football game.
The 12-year-old Butchie Harris of Coquille nearly defeated 1951 Coquille Valley Golf Club ladies champion Mrs. Chet Noyes in a 19-hole match. Butchie birdied the first hole and built pressure, with Noyes securing a one-hole win by the 18th in the first round before a rematch began.

Shooting Stars a local talent show directed by Phoebe Gorman of San Francisco will be staged at the high school auditorium Friday and Saturday night. Tiny-Tots contestants open the program with Milton Berle and Snow White acts followed by mop-uppers and regional personalities in a two hour musical revue.
In conjunction with the play Shooting Stars Miss Phoebe Goran conducts a Tiny-Tot popularity contest. The Coquille Valley Golf & Country Club annual championship narrows to four finalists: Andy Richarviaen, Erv Dettman, Jack McLarrin, and George Linn. They toppled Bill Downing, Les Smith, Jobs Lauterbach, and Clayton Mast to reach the semi finals this week.
Senator Walsh spoke at the Myr Point Lions Club on Wednesday evening detailing backstage workings of the Republican National Convention. He highlighted events leading to Dwight Eisenhower’s nomination and praised Eisenhower’s leadership for crises and peace. Frank Meldrum introduced Walsh as Jack Dunn presided in a large, lively gathering with entertainment notes and Tail Twisters causing playful turmoil.
Gideons of Oregon collected $1000 at the 26th annual convention in Coquille, raised from 32 district services and a final benediction. The funds will fund Bible distribution in hotels, schools, jails and other needy sites. Local officials and Coos county residents hosted a successful gathering.
Community band in Myrtle Point organized with Arnold Melby as leader and Les Simons as assistant. Rehearsals set for Mondays at 7 p m at the new junior high school and open to those interested. Members present included Les Simons Bill Geek Drama Pat Mike Donohue Bill Rey Bessdés.
Former local high school stars Dave Haberly of Myrtle Point and Hubert Blackie ee return for the Myrtle Bowl Shrine classic as Oregon College of Education faces Southern Oregon on the Marshfield High School field in Coos Bay. The Shrine affair is slated for 8 p.m. with bleacher seating available.
