P C Roper and company reopen the automobile body and fender repair shop in the old Thompson building on Spruce street after purchasing the building. Fred Durbin and H C Stevenson oversee the work. Durbin, formerly with Bay Meters Coos Bay, was discharged after six years of service. Stevenson hails from Coos Bay.
Coos county livestock men plan a meeting at the American Legion hall Myrtle Point on Monday 23 at 1 30 PM. President McArneld Gaylord and county officials attend. A Fish and Wildlife Service representative will discuss coyote control and predator issues while plans for seeding range land by air this fall are reviewed. County forester Moore head outlines county timber and land sale plans to sustain yields.
A Jersey bull calf was awarded to C R Kelley of Gravelford during Myrtle Point Rotary Club's Jersey improvement program. Wallace Dement announced the selection from Myrtle Point creamery records. The calf is loaned for five years, with two Jersey heifers as rent to the club and one given to each of 4 H and Future Farmer members on merit. The calf returns with its record after five years and will be sold.
Mr and Mrs C C Carter returned from a vacation trip passing through Tiajuana and Victoria then paused in Phoenix Grand Canyon Salt Lake City Yellowstone Grand Canyon and Montana. They toured the Grand Coulee Dam in Washington and attended the Pendleton Round-Up before returning to Myrtle Point.
Pat McLarrin of the Casville Valley Country Club suffered a toe injury this week while operating a power mower on the course. An underblade struck one toe but the injury is not serious.
About 11 000 people attended the 8th annual Coos county fair last Saturday night, matching pre war attendance peaks. The event featured extensive exhibits including 4 H and youth groups, notable for their livestock displays and community booths. The Myrtle Point Grange won the 80 award amid strong booth competition.
Elizabeth Pearson and Donna Ward from Myrtle Point were among 238 women pledged to sororities during rush week on the University of Oregon campus. Pearson is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Bert Pearson and Ward is the daughter of Mr and Mrs F E Ward. Both Myrtle Point women were pledged by the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.
In the matched pair class of the horse judging event at the Coos county fair, two apr uchian horses owned by H M Hall and shown by him and Donna Bertolani earned top honors. Two buckskins owned by Bill and Wayne Watson and shown by Bill Watson and Genevieve Prenton won second honors. Marjorie Epps and Virgil McKinney took third honors with their two appaloachians.
Junior champion Ralph Weekly captured top honors at the Coquine Valley Country Club event with Bill Arnold finishing as runner up in the tournament concluded recently.
George Nichols and teammates begin practice with 46 lettermen and several alternates for the Myrtle Polat field season. Alumni defeat the team 7 to 0 as blockers and tacklers drill. fall lineup includes Roush Summers Kissell and Bingham among others. Schedule lists road and home games from Sept 20 in Roseburg to Nov 11 in Coquille.
Coos county ministers met in Coquille to discuss amending the county minister alliance declaration and affiliating with the Oregon council. The proposal was tabled for action at the next gathering in Coos Bay on Monday October 21.
A garbled toll of a highway protest was sent to Coos Bay Coquille officials this week. State highway engineer R M Baldeck wired Mayor B Fitzwater that instructions were issued for immediate attention to the dangerous road problem.
Local Lions club members met in the Myrtle Hotel banquet room Wednesday night to thank Virgil Vance and his committee for a successful fair concession. Other members listed include Thomas Forrest Orvil Haga Truman Hardy and Frank Furman.
Mrs George Hoffman announced the local cannery will operate only on Wednesdays due to lack of extra help. The move suspends Friday operations this week and continues for the season as cannery staff faced a rush of work despite a historically large season.
Bids for surplus buildings at Gold Beach used by a radar unit will be opened by U S Army engineers at Portland at 9 A M on Sept 30. The camp includes two barracks a recreational hall a mess hall kitchen huts water and sewer systems power lines and furnishings. Bid forms may be secured from the Coast Guard at the camp site.
Stassen will address the Petland convention in Portland with Robert Ormand Case as general convention chair and Judge Joseph B. Fetton of Salem as club president. The gathering runs October 4 and 5 at the Multnomah hotel with a main address by Stassen at the civic auditorium on October 5.
Coos county farm hospital leased to Mr and Mrs U S Clymer of Coquille for one year with option to purchase. Lease takes effect October 1 and covers 7 116 acres on the Coquille Fairview Road.
Ceech Bright takes over the senior Bobcats for his first season after discharge from the army and a graduate of Estern Oregon College. The junior team plans to face Coquille in upcoming action.
In Myrtle Point Mrs Anderson of Empire was elected secretary treasurer at the first county division meeting for the new school year. Rex Putnam state superintendent and Dennis McQuire discussed the basic school support measure on the fall ballot.
The county court plans the 1946 Coos county delinquent tax foreclosure notices to run in all county newspapers. Coos Bay Times designated official newspaper. ads prepared in cooperation with other papers. Publication scheduled for October.
Agness Estelle defeated Irene Mullin to win the finals of the ladies golf championship at Coquille Valley Country Club on Tuesday, with Mullin finishing as runner up.
Mr and Mrs A R Davenport journey with daughter Mrs B Holt and Mr Holt of Cloverdale California on a vacation loop to Crater Lake then southern California and returning home via the coast route.

Fifteen old Coos County warrants issued over seven years ago were canceled last week by the Coos County court. The uncashed warrants ranged from 85 cents to 18 dollars 85 cents.
Despite a broken arm Mrs A M Christensen kept a 15 year custom at the 1946 Coos County Fair by buying hamburger before opening day. A friend paid for it and her sister ensured delivery. For the deed Lilay Ellis may claim two theatre passes to the Hiland Theater for Cluny Brown next Sunday and Monday.
