The Old Country Schools of Coos County Remembered
In Coos County country schools spanned creeks with two sites at times and limited supplies. Early teachers like Florence Carter and Effie King Shindell earned small pay as they taught eight months in remote camps, while infrastructure and exams shaped careers. The era ended with improved transport and consolidation, leaving memories and a museum of log and wood schoolhouses.
