The state offers 15,000 to pave heavy traffic Ash street if the city prepares the street by July 1, 1953, with an improvement district extending from 2nd to 8th and a two-year completion plan.
Myrtle Point elementary schools report a new enrollment high of 591 pupils up from 571 last year. First grade leads with 100 students prompting an extra teacher. Mrs Gareth Goddard joins to teach second grade and Mrs Williams teaches the added first grade.

Mrs Harold Watzling PTA chairman announces kindergarten will reopen Monday Sept 22 at the old Grammar school building on the hill. Mrs W E Oakes returns as instructor with 10 to 12 a m sessions on school days. Registration available between 16 and 12. Regular school starts Sept 23.
The 1961 East Round of the Golf Championship totals a series of 4 2 and 5 4 victories as Holsman Nichols Richardson Meek Downing Brown Burbank Sutphin and others win while several players default.
