Continued from last week the article describes gathering timber for a house including white cedar lumber cut by Elijah Morris and a neighbor. They built a frame house 16 by 24 with an eight foot shed, weatherboarded with splined boards, a roof, and a front porch, while noting more cows being brought in as fall approaches.
V F W delegates James Pancoast and Mrs Pancoast depart for Portland to join a statewide group bound for a national encampment in Denver. Mrs Pancoast, Oregon's Wo FW Ladies Auxiliary state president, is the first non-Portland member to hold the post. After the encampment they plan to visit Cincinnati and Australia before returning about October.
A community pension club night at Townshall Park featured Bert Myers violin Eli Foarney, Luella Allen piano, and numerous acts led by Mrs E Vance chairing. The program included skits, duets, dances, readings, and a lamp pantomime, with outside guests Mr Lans Leneve and Mr W Oddy attended.
Myrtle Point firemen set up new street signs to help strangers and aid location during fires. Chief George Hughes and assistant chief Marlin Evane lead the crew including Laeshe Dey Jack Moore Prank Young Otto Prey Geige Royer and Milton Craven as they complete signs up to the grammar school.
Mr and Mrs Seldon Warner of Broadbent report their son Roland Warner and his family joined the Palmer Alaska government colony. He left Willamette valley work for dairy farming and canning projects, traveling through Anchorage to Palmer. The government provision includes a 24 room school, cannery and creamery, electricity by winter, and housing with installment-based deed.
Coos county library association meeting scheduled at the local Methodist church next Saturday September 19 at 2 pm. Miss Harriet Long former librarian will be chief speaker and exhibit late books, with reports from every county library and questions answered. Representatives and all interested in library work urged to attend.
The Lions Club met at Hamms Cafe to promote the 25th annual Fair next week urging members to wear big hats. A Saturday night Herald office meeting set final plans for a window decoration contest with prizes. Merchants must advertise local wares and Coos county products in store windows by Friday, with displays remaining through the Fair. An out of town committee will judge windows during the event, to be chosen by the Lions window display committee: L L Powers E O Sempert H A Christy and H E Whitaker.
Between five and six thousand people attended the Central Labor Council picnic held Sunday in the McCloskey grove at Norway. C. A. Howard, superintendent of schools, was principal speaker of the day. Approximately 1200 pounds of food were served.
Eloise Crowley, 19, daughter of Mr and Mrs Perlay Crowley, has secured a teaching post in Ketchikan Alaska for the winter. A Brewster Valley native and Myrtle Point High School graduate, she will teach the first five grades at a church school and the church conference will cover her travel expenses.
The annual tug of war and bag race between freshmen and sophomores will be held Friday at 2:30 on the school grounds. The total high school registration is 252 with 46 seniors 47 juniors 67 sophomores 90 freshmen and 2 post graduates. Some students are in logging camps or picking hops and will not enter until after the fair. The freshman class is large but total enrollment matches last year.

The city council appointed a budget committee at Tuesday night’s meeting in city hall to assist in preparing the annual budget. Theodore Haberly replaces FD Hollster at the high school and buys the L A LaFlamme property on Seaman Avenue. Edward Earl buys the O W Lindquist farm on Bridge Road, a two acre tract with strawberries, four miles from town. Mrs Floyd Fowler purchases the George West house on Eighth Street from J G W Perkins. Fowler works as day chef at the Jack and Jill Cafe.

C H Butler of Maplestreet returned Saturday night from an extended visit in Calistoga California with sister Mrs A Wright. He attended a family reunion dinner in Berkeley where all siblings gathered for the first time since 1886. Attendees included Beulah Westwood Victoria B C Blythe Henderson Lakeport Jay Butler Berkeley and others.
Myrtle Point pastors report favorable church responses to a new unified Sunday service starting October 4. Instead of two services the city will hold one 10 o’clock service combining worship and Bible study with age arranged classes after a worship period.
Regular meeting of the Royal Neighbors took place Monday evening in Schroeder hall with good attendance. The new victory campaign was discussed but no definite decision reached. A social period followed with sandwiches cantaloupes cookies punch and coffee served at the end.
A permanent committee from Myrtle Point Coquille and Bandon organized by local cities and chambers of commerce will push a federal flood control plan for the Coquille valley. A September 18 hearing in Bandon will hear requests for evidence showing flood losses, river transportation benefits, and prior local spending to justify federal aid.
Dr. Meece and Ray McNair discussed the Coquille fled project and finalized plans for the fair. The joint meeting between the Fair Board and the Chamber of Commerce covered event preparations and coordination.
Wilbur Hollaway was arrested Wednesday for possessing a void foreign license and faced a fine.
Coos OARP clubs name Henry Gustefven of Bend as a likely candidate for senator. Members plan attendance at a meeting tonight to select an independent candidate. Mayor Mahoney of Klamath Falls was asked to speak, but is unavailable.
