Teachers Named for Myrtle Point Area Schools

School District 41 announces new staff for Maple Bridge Myrtle Crest and Myrtle Point campuses. 1968 Myrtle Point graduate teaches first grade. Gerald Bateman joins as first year teacher at Bridge School after Lewis and Clark Normal training. 1964 North Bend alumna Eleanor Bick to 2nd grade at Bridge. Lowell Bick to Myrtle Crest coaching and eighth grade teaching. Richard J. Chiesa to high school commercial subjects after Michigan State degree. 1963 bachelor and 1966 master grad Richard Cowan to high school math. Dayton to Myrtle Crest football and seventh grade training. Miss Alicea Fish returns to Oregon schools for teaching.

Opening day enrollments show Myrtle Point High School with 449 students and total elementary enrollment of 938 across Dora Broadbent Arago Bridge Maple Myrtle Crest. Transfers to outlying schools planned. bus schedule adjustments noted. New staff include Tom Johnson teaching U.S. History and Gary Larsen teaching seventh grade and coaching at Bridge.

Special Scout Meeting for Adults at Mark's Church Hall

A special meeting for all adults interested in Scouting is set for Friday September 13 at 8 pm in Mark's Church Hall KM. Invited are members of Committees of Troops 1 46 and Peck 9, parents, den mothers, and any adult willing to help boys using the Scouting for Boys methods.

OSU Initiates Study to Cut Oregon Seed Losses

Oregon State University launches emergency research to help farmers reduce losses in grass and grain seed after record rains. OSU experts test viability and germination of samples from Willamette Valley Ontario Union County, with results in as little as 24 hours to guide harvest decisions.

Edmund Brodie Receives Sigma Xi Grant

The Society of Sigma Xi awards Edmund D. Brodie Jr an aid grant for his study on geographic and interspecific variation of western salamanders of the genus Plethodon at Oregon State University. Dr Harlow Shapley notes the fund supports promising scientists at critical research points. Mrs Darrell Brodie of Myrtle Point is named in the announcement.

Football Season Tickets On Sale At Myrtle Point

Season tickets for reserve seats in the grandstand are on sale now for the 1968 69 football season. The nine dollar price covers four home games and tickets may be purchased at the Myrtle Point High School office. The first home game is Friday September 30 with a complete schedule on page 6.

Inter-church fellowship to open fall gathering

Inter-church fellowship plans its first fall meeting Monday September 9 at Christian Church on 6th and Willow with a pot luck. The piece notes 2700 yellow school buses will operate daily in 1968-69 on Oregon streets and highways transporting 331000 pupils and workers for 00 miles during the year.

United Good Neighbors Campaign Set for 1968 Seaboard

Local chairman Jimmie King leads the United Good Neighbors drive with a Myrtle area goal of 3100 dollars for 1968. Committee members include Murl Hathaway C D Mason Ben Nichols Curt Beckham Bill Downing Bob Hogan and others. Proceeds fund medical research homeless children juvenile delinquency prevention and youth groups.
