Youngsters from four churches plus Future Farmers and Future Homemakers of America join a UNICEF fund drive in Marble Point. Presbyterian Methodist Church of the Brethren and Assembly of God youth meet at 6 30 pm at the Presbyterian church to collect for children worldwide. Then they return for games and refreshments. All youths are invited.

Brodie Qualifies For Oregon State Honors Program
William Robert Brodie of Myrtle Point is among 102 Oregon State University freshmen to qualify for the School of Science Honors program this fall. The program, begun in 1989 at OBU, admits students from the top fifth of their high school class with strong science and math grades and school recommendations. Honors students take advanced coursework, participate in readings, research, and seminars, and graduate with honors diplomas in their fields.

Myrtle Point Delegates Attend Oregon Diocese Convention
At the 75th annual Diocese of Oregon convention held at Trinity Church in Portland from October 20 to 22, Rev. Lon Tetrick and Harold Belloni represented St. Mark's Myrtle Point and St. Paul’s. Women delegates included Mrs. Harold Belloni Mrs. Robert Belloni and Mrs. Lem Tetrick. Also present were Mrs. Burehead Mirst Wakkila accompanying their husbands from St. Paul’s. The church was among 72 represented yet did not accept its full share of the mintenary work in the Diocese and world. Bishop James W. F. Carmen presided.

Grant VanDoren Dies After Heart Attack Near Bandon
Coquille civic and business leader Grant VanDoren died Sunday evening from a heart attack while awaiting help with a flat tire three miles south of Bandon. He was born in 1980 and served on the Coquille city council from 1962 to 1966. Paul Hammer Honored Posthumously by Oregon Hospitals
Paul Hammer received a posthumous plaque bearing the inscription in memory of loyalty and dedicated service. The Oregon Association of Hospitals presented the honor during a Monday banquet at the Hilton in Portland attended by Mrs. Hammer. Hammer had long served on the association’s board and was its president at his death. He directed Mast Hospital in Myrtle Point and was widely recognized by hospital administrators in Oregon.
