Joe Mast longtime Coos County resident and former Myrtle Point city councilman died Friday. Funeral services were held Monday at Schroeder chapel with Rev Glen Hutton officiating, interment at Norway Cemetery. He was born January 17 1879 in Etalka Gaylord and survived by a large family including his widow Sarah and several children and siblings across Oregon and Washington. The large crowd at the funeral reflected his standing in the county.

He cites about 14 000 capital per new job and calls current 91 percent top rate the world’s highest.

Bill Kilgore of Powers wins the 1968 Jaycee Buck Derby grand prize a 30 06 rifle after weighing in a 168 pound buck. Runner up heaviest buck weighed 146 pounds by James Hammack. Prizes awarded at the Jaycee banquet with Jaycee president Hal Vrooman thanking ticket buyers weighstations and supporting merchants.
The Happy Camp road salvage sale of 440 partial cut areas in the Illinois Valley on the Siskiyou National Forest was sold October 19. Rough and Ready Lumber Co. was the sole bidder. Estimated Douglas fir and other species volume 590 M board feet at appraised price 2510 with bid 25.15 per thousand, total appraised value 14809.00, total bid 14838.50.
Sumner dairy club members welcomed nine new initiates at a Halloween party held October 24 at the Sumner Grange hall. John Van Calear led apple dunking singing and games for twenty three members and guests with Extension staff Miss Noamy Loseke Paul Rauen Mrs Paul Rauen and Miss Verna Hudson present. Lunch was provided by Mr and Mrs Harold Velure.
A county extension sponsored event in Coos Bay will cover mushroom growing with Dr. Lewis Roth of Oregon State University presenting expert insights on culture and growth. The October 30 briefing at 8 p.m. in room 137 city hall invites the public to bring mushroom specimens for study.
A Bridge School carnival is planned for Saturday November 14 with events starting at 8 p m. The program includes games merry go round cake walk baseball throws and a smoke may be held at Bridge school the public is invited to attend.
Broadbent is the only district to vote against the administrative district reorganization. A 30 day window opens for a revote in Broadbent, with the county superintendent to set proceedings. If no petition is filed, Broadbent joins the district automatically.

Following the panel, buzz sessions will be held at small tables with questions to the panel and light refreshments served.
Announcement forthcoming for the first general drive in the Coquille valley district council labeled Wester Waters. Co chairmen are Wm. Head and Wm. Fortier. Next week an official reveal will name the representative.
Ed Roberts a longtime Myrtle Point figure died Saturday after a year of hospitalization. Born November 17 1880 he spent his life in Myrtle Point and served as a civic leader and attorney. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Schroeder Bros mortuary with interment at Norway cemetery.
Ed Getchell is reported dead leaving his partner Ray Roberts, with the Myrtle Point firm renamed Roberts & Getchell. Getchell studied at a realty school while Ed’s death occurred, and Roberts had long served Myrtle Point in civic roles including city recorder and city council member.
The Bolivar Copper Co. at Powers reports a 100 ton mill seated and a 10 ton mill ready near the mine as work progresses. Groundwork for added machinery is underway with much activity. A Japanese delegation in the U S shows strong interest and frequent contact with Mr. Carr as talks of large Japanese American deals loom.
A neighbor writes a confrontational letter accusing a hunter of shooting their son’s registered Jersey 4-H calf near the house. The note questions the hunter’s conscience and seeks accountability for the alleged deer hunting mistake and harm to the calf named Janie.
