George Peck of New York calls on Americans to write him with preferred candidates for president in 1952. The Myrtle Point Herald seeks reader responses to influence both Democratic and Republican conventions. Letters to Peck will be sent directly to him.
The Myrtle Point Herald urges a national leader unbound by party or cliques to restore constitutional government. It cites Eddie Rickenbacker’s 15 qualifications for the 1952 presidency, emphasizing convictions, minority restraint, labor protection, states’ rights, wartime powers return, reduced bureaucracy, and America First stance.
David Ferdinand Knell 38 attempted death by his own action using ether. Police arrived to find him heavily under influence and he was taken to the hospital where he regained consciousness. Chief Vines said Knell admitted the attempt and expressed remorse. The motive was reported as a romance disappointment.
According to A. E. Hildebrandt at the school, the cannery will close for the season at the end of the shift next Saturday. It will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anyone with 400 or more cans may arrange for extended cannery operations.
