Old Sandy Creek Bridge Survives Fire Incident
Residents of the Remote area acted Tuesday of last week when the pioneer covered bridge on Highway 42 caught fire from a brush blaze. The north side roof was badly damaged, but the bridge, a relic of pioneer days, is being preserved as a memo of the days of yore. Mrs. Edgar Pillette submitted a photo, though it proved unsatisfactory for publication.

James David Clinton Pioneer of Coos County Lumber and Community Work
James David Clinton lived in Coos County Oregon from 1872 after moving with his parents. He pioneered lumber ventures and helped found the Farmers Telephone Co., built barns, helped roads, served on Myrtle Point city council, and retired as a log scaler at 78. He was active in Masons Shriners Elks Odd Fellows and died October 4 at the Myrtle Point Rest Home.
