Runway Project Advances at Norway Air Park Site
Local aviation enthusiasts report progress on the Norway Air Park runway at the north end of the airport. Volunteers from Leep Logging and other firms moved heavy earth, base rock, and dirt, aided by tractors and trucks, to form a hard runway foundation. By Sunday evening about 3,500 yards of material had been relocated, with final coating and utility tasks slated, as officials eye potential Board of Aeronautics approval.

Myrtle Point Bobcats defeated the previously unbeaten Douglas Trojans 27-7 on the Trojan field to move to a third straight nonleague win. John Franzen led Myrtle Point with 106 yards on 19 carries and a 29 yard scoring run, while Terry Pullen connected on an 18 yard pass for the go ahead touchdown before halftime. Safety dinner at Myrtle Hotel discusses workers comp bill

Paving Planned Through Myrtle Point Section
The State Highway Department will pave the highway through Myrtle Point to the curb line on Friday if weather permits. City Manager Ben Nichols said the city is asked to extend the culvert at 8th street to allow paving and the state may pave shoulders from 8th to Willow.

Myrtle Hotel Construction Gets Underway
Work began this week to remove the third floor of the Myrtle Hotel Building owned by Griffey and Laird and operated by Floyd LaFayiette. E L Perrott and Son of Coquille conducts the reroofing and demolition to second story height. The Guerin Hotel built in 1901 will be demolished and rebuilt with a Rexall store extending to the alley. The Myrtle Hotel lobby will face Spruce Street between the coffee shop and Sempert Drugs.

Jack McLarrin longtime Oregon resident died at 62 in Myrtle Point on Sept 29 after a long illness.
