After two years the Full Gospel church on Cemetery road Maple street invites the public to hear Rev. C. P. Melton of Florence Alabama along with Rev and Mrs. Cline. Meetings begin daily at 7 30 PM with the nationally known evangelist conducting services.
Thousands of deer hunters prepare to head for Oregon timberlands with assurances the season will not be delayed by fire danger. The state forestry department and U S Forest Service note many areas remain under permit or regulated use closures, unless heavy rains arrive before October 3 when the season opens.

Migratory waterfowl stamps are now on sale at U S post offices. The 1953 stamp is maroon showing a blue winged teal. Hunters over 16 must carry a stamp while duck hunting. cost is two dollars. Word has been received that Miss Eva McGraw died at her home in Oakland California on Friday September 25 She was well known in Myrtle Point and visited relatives and friends frequently She was a cousin of Mrs Tom Guerin Sr and a granddaughter of En Tichenor founder of Port Orde
Senior and freshman classes in Kay Petersen’s physical education program explored deer hunting regulations and firearm handling. Oregon State Police Officer Hershey spoke on hunting rules, with Ernie Wlyd and Robert Corthell detailing safe handling and conservation issues for students likely to deer hunt.
A G Anderson general manager of Safeway stores in the district visited the local Safeway store this week to observe operations and meet staff.
The Oregon District Conference of the Church of the Brethren meets October 8 to 11 at the local church corner of Railroad and Willow streets. Rev Leo H Miller leads the opening session at 7 30 p m with theme Church Membership and Christian Growth. Guest speakers include Harold D Fasnecht David H Studebaker Leland Nelson and I V Funderburgh.
A church group at the Methodist church discussed forming a men fellowship club. They will host a banquet in the church basement on Monday October 28 at 6 30 pm. Tickets cost 1 00 and are available from John Rhodes or at Bay Heat Ray Harris Plumbing. Plans and officer elections will follow.
Worldwide Communion will be observed at the Methodist church this Sunday during morning worship. People of all races and creeds will participate worldwide and all church members are invited to share the Lord's table. Rally day aims for 175 attendees, last year 149 attended despite hunting season.
Walley Husted of The Dalles Oregon is appointed manager of the Myrtle Point Safeway succeeding Oscar Palmquist who moves to Safeway in LaView Oregon. Palmquist departs today for his new post. Husted, a married man with two sons, previously worked for Safeway for 11 years and led the Myrtle Point store after serving as assistant at The Dalles.
Hiland Theatre will show the Marciano La Starza world heavyweight title fight on October 6 and 7. The Madison Square Garden bout last Thursday ended in a technical knockout in the seventh round when referee halted the fight due to La Starza’s condition. Ring side seats available for the screening.
The Myrtle Point Community Band will present its first Fall Concert on Wednesday October 28 at 8 o clock in the junior high auditorium. Manager Spenny Ross invites the public to attend and notes a band member recruitment drive with instruments furnished for those without one. Interested players should contact Ross at Schroeder Furniture.
The General Extension Division offers a Thursday evening course on personal and family relationships from 7 to 9 45 pm at One Mon High School room 7. Dr John Schulz extension service field representative is the instructor. The class meets in the fall term and may carry college credit if desired.
A public meeting is set for Monday October 12 at 8 pm in the Myrtle Point city hall to discuss a proposed community swimming pool for youngsters. The effort, driven by Mrs Chet Weed and the Community Swimming Pool organization, seeks support from service clubs and local residents through a final report from the August 13 committee chaired by Ed Sempert.
The Anglers Cafe and Lounge held its grand opening Saturday evening. Mrs Harold Watsling sat amid bouquets from local businesses and friends as about 208 people attended. Free orchids and a luncheon accompanied dancing to the Melodiers Orchestra.
