Salem Oregon reports indicate farmers will see above average income from crops and livestock. Data from Oregon State University suggests cash income rises with regional growth, though figures for 1990 were not fully established.
At the Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce meeting, members voted unanimously to rename the coast highway through Oregon the Oregon Coast Highway. The gathering featured Arago 4-H club boys led by George Nampton and remarks by County Agent George Jenkins about the 4-H program tying to future farming.
Mary B. Mix, from Los Angeles, purchased the Robinson ranch of 438 acres on the Coquille highway. Her son will help operate the ranch and they reside in the Lee Ray house on Maple street while planning improvements. Mrs. Mix chose Coos County for its climate and future prospects and its absence of poisonous reptiles and insects.
Mrs Christina Bello Caldwell, widow of Mr Caldwell, arrives at the Wagner home in Los Angeles relatives say. She is an Eckley district native and aunt to Mrs Wagner, visiting for the first time in seventeen years and expressing interest in the region's development since she left.
Myrtle Point volunteer fire department advertises a big dance to be held at Oaks pavilion Christmas night. Further notice of details will be given later.
In Myrtle Point two couples Mr and Mrs Dick Braden and Mr and Mrs T E Dickson celebrate their 37th wedding anniversaries with a Thanksgiving dinner at the Braden home. Guests include the T E Dickson family, Vernon Ford of Massfield, Louisa Prey and the Braden family.
The junior high boys won two season openers, defeating Powers 14 4 at halftime and edging Coquille after extra periods. A Campfire Girls game preceded the boys contest with a 24 10 Campfire loss. The next match is December 6 at Riverton.
The Cops and Curry Bankers Association held a special meeting at the Chandler hotel in Marshfield last Thursday night inviting county banks to bring many employees and board members. Speakers on state banking affairs led a pleasant educational program with representation from Bank of Myrtle Point and Security Bank including George Dickinson A J Radabaugh Katie Furman Ralph Kring Glen Tabor Wallace Dement and Karl Kaufman.
Mr and Mrs Ed Lewellen and family will host the Dr L L Sumerlin family the Lawrence Rack lef family Mr and Mrs Louis Lew allen of Coquille and Walter Law horn on Thanksgiving day.
The proclamation declares Thursday November 27, 1930 as a national day of thanksgiving. Dr. B T Simms head of the State College veterinary department will explain the Oregon System for prevention control and eradication of infectious abortion in dairy cattle. Meetings will be in Myrtle Point city hall at 8 PM on December 5 and December 6.
In Base Hill school house the Road District 27 special election produced 35 voters. The 5 mill tax was rejected in favor of a 2 mill plan for road improvement and bridge work toward Gaylord. Friction between residents cooled as the measure passed with broad support. Mrs Ray Dement visited town after illness.
Coos and Curry county sheepmen will discuss wool grading and new lamb marketing developments at meetings on December 2 3 and 4. Myrtle Point gathering at 130 PM December 4 in city hall. Coquille session at 8 PM December 4 in city hall.
The legislative committee of the Cops and Curry Granges will meet at the courthouse in Coquille at 8 PM. Dee Price Robison serves as chairman.
Pete Knight’s new Ford was taken in Roseburg Thursday evening while Errol Knight waited for his father Beaty Knight in Roseburg. A motorcycle officer arrested a man near Gold Hill for speeding. the suspect, about twenty one, confessed to stealing the Knight car and was jailed in Medford. The sheriff retrieved the car and returned it to Roseburg, with only the driver’s license and registration missing. The thief claimed intent to drive to California.
Thefore Hillyer of San Diego arrived Monday night and will return home Sunday with his wife and two daughters who have stayed several months. Mrs. Hillyer sought relief from asthma and is much improved. Mrs. Olive Shull will accompany them on their departure.
Mr and Mrs Howard W George and two sons Gordon and Norman of Cloverdale Oregon arrive Thursday morning for a Thanksgiving visit at the L P Linn home. Miss Grace Linn and Clare Keltner will also be guests. George taught at Myrtle Point High School and now serves as principal of a new union high school in Cloverdale.
Flower Club members remind prospective attendees that the next meeting is moved to the second Tuesday in December. They will meet only once a month during winter and urge all members to reserve that date and be present.
R B McGill of Bancroft came to arrange burial for William Madison Westbrook who died in Eden Valley Saturday evening. Born March 10 1879 in Ripley County Missouri. Body to be buried in Eden Valley. box and casket work to be completed locally.
Coos county students lead at Southern Oregon Normal School with Pat Lancaster elected freshman president. Lancaster, formerly Bandon football star, now Ashland normal school halfback. Lucille Rasmussen of Bandon is Wessan's League president. Richard Neil of Marshfield presides Coos County club. Mrs Jacob Moomaw, Myrtle Point class of 1925, elected secretary treasurer of Epsilon Pi women’s honor society with an average of 97 percent in music and art.
The Carver apartment house formerly the Benson property on Seventh street changed hands. Mr and Mrs Carver sold to a Corvallis man in exchange for 24 head of silver foxes to be delivered in the fall. The Corvallis buyer sold to Snydr of Bandon. The Carvers remain residents and caretakers, planning later to move to a tract to develop their fox industry.
A state truck delivered supplies to Powers Moe as 16,000 fish were released into the river above Powers. Additional truckloads are planned for later.
The Myrtle Point Union High School junior class presents The Nut Farm a three act comedy Friday night December 12. The amateur production features the Barton family with ambitions in film and theater and ends in a happy twist aided by movie magic. Cast includes Mrs Barton Lila Lewis Wilkie Barton Andy Newhouse Robert Bent Frank Larson Helen Bent Dolores Davenport and others. Admission is twenty five and fifty cents.
The Coast Lumber Yard opens at Spruce and Third, with Charneski as manager residing at Carver apartments on Seventh Street. The firm will handle products from the Coos Bay Tensing Company of North.
A jury convicted Hassler on a charge tied to a political card urging support for Jim Jenking as deputy sheriff. The conviction carries a fine between 10 and 160 dollars with no jail term. a separate trial on criminal libel is pending, with a potential penitentiary sentence if convicted.
Ray Vic Sutherland, a fugitive who shot two prohibition officers at Mareola on August 28, was killed in a woods encounter near West Fir southeast of here. A posse discovered him. he opened fire and wounded one officer before being mortally wounded by the posse’s first volley.
Chas Brodrick on Fourth street reports a shipment of nine Fitch, a small ferret like animal from Germany, used for fur. He plans to add them to his California breeding group, noting only about 600 exist in the country.
