Ray Ervin Barklow a Coquille resident and log truck driver was killed in a logging accident near Powers on Saturday November 21. He was born March 24 1914 in Bunker Hill Coos Bay and is survived by his widow Lila a daughter Mrs Clifford Hilliard a son Donald C Barklow his mother Mrs Maud Barklow and three sisters Mrs Glen McCrorey and others.
The Coquille Valley Art Center will hold its annual Holiday Bazaar Dec. 4 and 5 from 10 am to 9 pm at the Center on the Myrtle Point Coquille highway. Paintings and crafts by Art Center members will be for sale in one room and a rummage sale in the adjoining room.
Gerald Ulmer aged 11 sustained a sprained ankle on November 18 after tumbling from a moving car near the Rotary and striking his head on the ground.
The Hiland Theatre faces heavy repairs after two boys from the county juvenile department slashed 210 seat cushions and damaged seat backs costing 750 dollars each. About 65 chairs were torn loose and re welded. Theatre owner Erwin Wilberger plans to curb losses with parental cooperation as damage exceeds affordable repair. Police report knives are present among some youths though most children carry none.
About 18 Future Homemakers of America girls from Myrtle Point attended the South Coast district convention at Marshfield High School on November 14. Mrs Reed Gurney and Mrs Gloria Evernden accompanied the group as chapter mother and advisor.
Police Chief Lewis Floyd urged merchants to report bad checks immediately and avoid cashing checks from unknowns or drawn on out of town banks. In a related incident, Guy Pat Davis of Sitkum route, 26, was arrested in Myrtle Point on assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly firing a shotgun at a St Bernard dog and at a residence, with the dog under veterinary care and no bail set.

Three Coos Bay homes will be shown in a Christmas decorations tour on December 3 at 1:6 p.m. under three PEO chapters. The tour costs 1 dollar and is open to all interested persons. Tickets may be purchased at three homes: the Wey house and others listed.
The town announces a Christmas opening in Myrtle Point on Saturday November 28. Stores stay open to 8 pm, Santa Claus greets children at the Security Bank corner from 10 am to 12 noon and 2 pm to 4 pm. 5x7 photos with Santa cost 75 cents. A free Hiland Theatre show runs 1 to 3 pm. Moon's Hardware sponsors bicycle giveaways with Lions Club and Hiland Theatre hosting the December 19 drawing.
Under Miss Rosemary Kronquist the high school mixed and freshman choirs perform a Thanksgiving program during fourth period starting with Mar cia Knight reading. Selections include Thanksgiving Prayer The Road Not Taken My Own America Stars of the Voyager Willow Wind and more. Incidental solos by Judy Van Vinck Norma Gross and Jim Pearce accompany the mixed ensemble in Bless This House. The triple trio performs Jan Waela and three Hungarian Folk Songs.
