Myrtle Point merchants announced a free matinee at the Hiland Theatre this Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. featuring Snow White and The Three Stooges. All children admitted free. last Saturday drew over 400 children and teens. Teer.
Pat Cunningham is named girl of the month at Myrtle Point High School for leadership. The recognition highlights her contributions to school activities and student leadership roles.
November saw an average low of 39 and high of 55 degrees. The peak high 68 degrees occurred November 2 and the lowest 36 degrees on November 16. Rainfall totaled 9.23 inches, above 6.68 inches in 1908. The river rose to 30.33 feet on November 28, near flood stage at 35 feet.
The Southwestern Oregon Foundation elected three new members to join its committee bringing total membership to 17. New appointees are Mrs James A Lyons Coos Bay David R Philpott Bandon and Jesse Laird Myrtle Point They join returning officers and 11 district scholars noted with ND E A loans grants and student body leadership scholarships.
Postmaster Schroeder says the Post Office expects a record Christmas mail volume with more than twelve billion pieces moving in December. Public cooperation, early mailing, and Zip Codes are urged to keep deliveries on time as Myrtle Point hosts outreach on Saturdays with Santa and candy canes for children.
Christmas gifts are being collected in Coos County for about 70 patients at the four state mental hospitals after Salem decentralization. A daily collection depot is open at the Public Health Office in the Court House Coquille, with a goal of 4000 patients served statewide. Cash gifts help buy major items like piano and record players. Checks should be made out to Christmas gifts and mailed to the Mental Health Clinic Court House Coquille.
The District 41 school board will meet December 9 in the district office and will not meet on the regular date December 33. One December meeting only. All interested persons invited to attend. Mrs A C Mc Cracken died Saturday in Eugene Hospital aged 71 after a brief illness. Services held Monday at 11 30 a m in Eugene. Donations to Cancer Fund requested.
Frank Dee Elder died from injuries in a buckling logging accident in Buckley Washington in November. Services were held at Schroeders chapel with Pastor Dorman Love officiating. Burial took place at Norway cemetery. The report also covers postal updates about Zip Codes and Christmas stamps improving mail delivery and handling.
Head football coach Bob Peterson awarded letters and special honors to the 1964 football team during an assembly at Navy High School. Recipients included Gram, Johan Wayne Stout, Bob Van Viesk, Dan Breweter, M Terry Trenell, Bil Weal, and others in attendance at Pullen Gram.
Ralph Rackleff died December 1 at Mast Hospital at age 38 after a long illness. He was born December 10, 1875, in Myrtle Point and worked as a dairy farmer. Survived by wife Jennie, sons Howard and Archibald, daughter Leta Slagle, sister Nellie, brothers Lyman and Owen, eight grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Services pending at Schroeder's chapel. Memorials may be directed to Heart or Peri... charity in his memory.
Three act drama by Bernard Gilford titled Lost Flight will be staged by Myrtle Point high seniors in the high school cafeteria December 9 and 10. Curtain is 8 pm both nights. Brenda Nichols plays Joyce Michael. ticket sales run via drama club.
