Myrtle Point quilter Hattie Evernden's lifelong craft spans Coos County
The 91 year old Myrtle Point resident has quilted for over 75 years learning from her mother after moving from Washington. She makes about one large quilt weekly using hand sewn blocks on a large frame and hand stitching. She has produced 17 quilts for neighbors and distant patrons, relies on family for materials, and keeps busy to stay active.

Praise bel rung at Bridge church marks bell installation
The Bridge Community Church celebrated the first ringing of a 500 pound bell, stored since its origin. Allen Silvens, employed by Coos Forest Fire Protective Assn., led the project with donated poles and Duane Barzee’s log truck aiding hoisting. Pastor Emmit Curtis noted Weluer Bob Iverson assisted, as the church traces its origins from 1900 with Rev. Turner McDonald and later leadership by Arnold Darke and Rev. Neil Fisher. The congregation now numbers about 50 members.

United Way drive surpasses halfway toward Myrtle Point goal

Two arrested in Rabbit Hutch fire
Two juvenile boys face charges of negligent burning linked to the September 12 blaze at the Rabbit Hutch that destroyed about 12,000 dollars of equipment and stock and caused 4,000 dollars in building damage with smoke effects on nearby businesses.
