Legion Members Enjoy Annual Feed At Country Club

One hundred forty one members of the American Legion veterans of World Wars I and II gathered at the Coquille Valley Country Club Armistice Day for the annual Coquille Myrtle Point breakfast. Toastmaster Jack Dunn convened with Ritchie Francis chairing entertainment and song. Clarence A. Barton and Lee Collier spoke as commanders. Silence was observed to honor deceased comrades.

In a hard fought contest Myrtle Point led 7 0 after Mortensen booted the opening extra point. A second quarter charge by Coquille almost produced a major score when Jim Clark broke through near the 40 yard line before being tackled.

School Districts Plan Voting On Consolidations

Several districts consider consolidating with votes set for December. Twin Oaks and Mynts Point may vote on December h while Willand Kentuck Inlet plan December 8. Cunningham district seeks consolidation involving multiple nearby districts through petitions and public hearings. The Coos County Rural School Board for 1948-49 met with Davenport as chair and Philpott as vice-chair. The First National Bank of Portland Coquille branch named as official funds bank.

Boy Scout Court of Honor Set for Coquille November 22

The Coquille Valley District Oregon Trail Boy Scouts will meet at the Community building in Coquille next Monday evening November 22. Troops from Myrtle Point Bandon and Coquille attend with emphasis on all district Scouts including Troop 98 led by Phil Ryan. Colored slides will be shown and the public is invited.

The Arago Community church invites all to Thanksgiving services at 11 and an after service lunch and fellowship. The pastor notes that some have no relatives or place to go and welcomes everyone to join.

Myrtle Point city council votes to annex east and south district of about 150 acres. Voters favored annexation 382 to 65. Official action awaits filing with the secretary of state. surveyor to draft rough plan for a new water line. mayor and council members present.

Shrine Benefit Dance Proves Huge Success

The Shrine Benefit Dance held November 6 drew a large crowd and proved very profitable. Music by Ralph South stone and his 8 piece orchestra was excellent and well received. The performance was donated by the Musicians Union. Rev Gerald Pope of Powers visited Myrtle Point on Monday.

Dogpatchers enjoyed a lively Sadie Hawkins party at the Oaks Pavilion last Saturday night. Special Meetings At Local First Methodist Church

Evangelistic meetings are held each evening at 7 30 in Myrtle Point with visiting pastors in the pulpit and the church choir performing under Mr Chet Weed. Week includes talks by Rev Wendell Dean, Rev Lawrence Guidance, Rev Sidney Gaither, Rev David Bauman, and Rev Briggs on topics from winning souls to youth evangelism. Union Thanksgiving Service will involve all churches with Rev Marion Stern speaking and the Methodist choir providing music.
