After Dwight D Eisenhower defeated Adlai Stevenson in the recent general election Stevenson acted as a gracious loser. He sent a telegraph to Eisenhower offering warm congratulations and wishing success for the years ahead.
Ed S Gamwell former Powers High School superintendent sends a letter read at the dedication. He notes he must attend a Gardner meeting and expresses best wishes to patrons and citizens as the community opens the new $250,000 school.
Coos county’s 46th annual fair will be held in Myrtle Point from August 14 to 17 1957. Dates were arranged at the State Fairs Association convention in Portland where Coos officials attended. The convention highlighted county fair progress and elected new officers for the year.
The Coos County 4 H Leaders Association banquet drew about 70 leaders and guests on November 10. State agent Cal C. Monroe spoke on Lighting the Way for Youth. Cecil Root of Pacific Power & Light outlined leadership goals for 4 H. The event was sponsored by Pacific Power & Light and hosted by the Coquille Grange 4 H club with pins and certificates awarded.
In Bend Oregon Weyerhaeuser Timber Co Coos Bay district led a record salvage of 62.5 million board feet of damaged wind felled and infected Douglas fir timber. The Millicoma Forest Tree Farm aerial surveys showed widespread dead and dying trees from bark beetle outbreaks intensified by gales and windthrows in 1953. A rapid salvage program used new roads and mobil logging gear to access scattered pockets before further decay.

Charles Redell 38 formerly of Myrtle Point was accidentally killed Thursday November 8 at his Fresno California home while cleaning a gun. He was born in Myrtle Point and his Fresno funeral was held Tuesday. He is survived by his wife Bonnie four children his mother Mrs Hattie Redell of Yachats and other relatives.
A driver’s license examiner will be on duty in Myrtle Point at city hall on Wednesday November 21, 1956 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The visit is announced by the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles.
