The 85 Legionaires gathered for their annual Armistice Day breakfast with veterans’ open house. District commander acted as toastmaster before a prayer led by Chaplain McCarthy. Clarence Morrison and Ritchie Francis spoke on Armistice Day. Canon salutes were fired in Coquille and Myrtle Point.

An unknown pair attempted to crack the Myrtle Feint high school office safe and a money drawer, taking only petty cash about 830 dollars. They pried at the inner safe door but fled, leaving tools behind. Police, led by Chief Richard Vines, have no clues or fingerprints to date.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the funeral home for Susan Emaline Hermann 82 who died at Mast hospital November 7. Rev A Theodore Smith of the Presbyterian church officiated and interment followed. Mrs Hermann was a long time resident and pioneer of Coos County. She is survived by three daughters Mrs G E Morth Point Mrs N W ald Bremerton Washington, Harry Wilson Sumner Washington, sons E E Hermann Portland Eugene D Hermann Modesto California, one brother JoW Wagner Eugene and three sisters Mrs Ella Strang Coquille, Eliza beth Lett Norway and Mrs J H McCloskey Norway.
The Community Chest drive shows little progress since last week. The $2200 goal is about half reached with Lions club leading at $640 from the covered territory. Chest chairman Bill Dayton urges all reportees or finished territories to submit figures and asks those overlooked to contact him at phone 164.
R E Hutchinson of Portland and Howard C Beeler of Medford, both with Greyhound Lines, stopped in Coos County Friday. Hutchinson said Greyhound appreciates the public support in southern Coos County and will continue to provide efficient service and expand it when possible to meet travelers' needs.
The W. C. T. U. sponsors a cook food sale next Saturday at City Cash Grocery. All proceeds go to the Children's Farm Home at Corvallis per Mrs. Ida Laswell.
The Legion Auxiliary again calls for toy donations to aid the children of disabled veterans. Toys can be left in The Herald box before Christmas and will be packed for shipment to Roseburg. The annual project relies on Southern Coos County residents generosity to help the kids.
Mr and Mrs Walter Pahl announce the sale of their Myrtle Point Plumbing Shop interests to Ray Harris. Harris and his son Ray Jr will take over the business on Tuesday November 20, with thanks to patrons for past support.

The Oregon State football team will face off in a campus event at Maynard Field during Thanksgiving vacation. Mayor Hezekiah Myers proclaims festivities including a parade race at 1 30 p m and two bit weddings officiated by Marryin Sam. A Cedar Grove orchestra dance caps the day at the Oaks pavilion with prizes for best costumes.
