Education Week Highlights Myrtle Point District 41 Structure

Myrtle Point District 41 spans seven schools and 550 square miles in Coos County. With 1,470 students and a $1.38 million budget, the district balances class sizes by bussing students among Myrtle Point Broadbent Bridge Arago Dora and other plants.

Mammoth girders arrive for bridge near Myrtle Point

120 foot long 115000 pound concrete girders moved to the Highway 42 bridge site just north of Myrtle Point. Girders built by Morris Brothers Harrisburg and will join the Roy L. DATE WEATHER project under Ken Schlemmer supervision. About 18 workers on the $1.9 million joint federal state effort started May 2 with completion expected mid June. Bridge to be 72 feet wide with four 12 foot lanes and 10 foot shoulders plus a four foot medial strip.

Taxpayers unite as Coos County bylaws committee named

Homer Pete Petersen of Myrtle Point joins five appointees to draft bylaws for the new Coos County Taxpayers Association. Other members include Tom Swanton of Coos Bay Gerald Saim of North Bend Roddie Williams of Coquille and Robert Mason of Coquille city council and Masoca Hardware owner. About 45 people attended the meeting in Coquille with reps from North Bend Cus Bay Coquille and nearby communities. Next meeting slated for November 19 in Coquille city council chambers. Al Armemtrong of Coquille serves as temporary chairman.
