Bobcats Ready for Siuslaw in State AA Quarterfinals

Myrtle Point Bobcats seek revenge and a spot in the state AA semifinals as they host Siuslaw Vikings on Friday night at 8. The 7 1 1 season includes a 5 0 league mark and only loss to Newport. Siuslaw arrives 8 1 and aims to prove their earlier win over Myrtle Point was no fluke.

Cartwright launches radio show on KWRO in Coquille

Tide Cartwright, a Coquille Valley singer, starts a new country western radio program on KWRO every Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. Al Cartwright of Cartwright's Car Care says about 22 percent of Tide's 1,800 copy album has sold. The album is sold locally at Cartwright's Car Corral or Memion's Variety. Tide Cartwright, son of a Coquille resident, formerly lived in Myrtle Point and performed with Pete Oden and the Country Gentlemen.

Fire patrol tax cuts for grazing land in Coos County

Coos County seeks grazing land reclassification to lower fire patrol taxes. Farmers must file by December 1 with legal descriptions to the County Land Classification Committee at the Extension Office. A minimum 60 percent open grease land is required and hearings occur in February with four committee members, three appointed by the county.

Mrs. Dwight Burch of the Coos Bay League of Women Voters says league members and other Coos County groups are circulating petitions under the auspices of Oregonians to Reform Executive Succession. They seek forty thousand four hundred signatures to place an amendment on the ballot for the state’s gubernatorial succession.
