The week brings injuries from accidental firearm discharge near a rural homestead, a craftsman loses part of a finger while chopping, new telegraph line work completes a Northwest route, and settlers continue moving to Oregon and Washington. Community editorials note school ranks and historic anniversaries with regional business and weather mentions.
The Mahaffeys celebrated the Rackliffs 40th wedding anniversary with a three tier cake and gifts. Ralph Rackleff and Jennie McNair united in 1869 at Coquille with Rev. Ennis officiating. The couple, longtime Myrtle Point residents, have three children and nine grandchildren.
Mr and Mrs Floyd Watson take the William Cooper house on the hill after Lyle Bishop moved to California. Mr and Mrs Frank Jones relocate to the W E Lundy property on river road to Coquille. The Floyd Griffeys move to Fairview from Kenorth Lane and Griffey will join a local logging camp in the area.

Myrtle Grange elected a slate at the regular meeting Tuesday evening. May Robison was named master, with officers including Robert Lundy as overseer, Mrs. Laird as lecturer, Donald Schmidt as steward, Henry Dethefsen as assistant steward, Mrs. Nelfie Ray as chaplain, Martin Schmidt as treasurer, Mrs. Lawrence Hackieff as secretary, Ernest Davenport as gatekeeper, Mrs. Roy Shull as Ceres, Mrs. A. H. Bender as Pomona, Mrs. John Carl as Flora, Mrs. Norman Halter as lady assistant steward, and executive committee members Joe Mast, Walter Laird, and K. H. Hansen. They will be installed December 12 alongside officers from other granges, with two new members Herbert Snyder and wife taking the first and second degrees.
In county jail Vernon M. Bright 20 of Gravelford and Albert King 21 of Myrtle Point were arrested last Thursday and Friday for a legally offensive act involving an auto. Clayton & Roland of Myrtle Point was confined to the county jail last Thursday charged with delinquency and sent to the state school at Woodburn the following day.
Dearl Pete Somers longtime JFone resident and engineer for a Coos Bay component company was found dead Thursday morning November 9 by Deputy Ed Peterson. His body was brought to Schroeder Funeral Home in Myrtle Point. Funeral arrangements have not been made.
The Woman's club will sponsor a Red Cross roll call drive in Myrtle Point with house to house canvassing set for November 13 to 23. Mrs Barker named local chairman asks every citizen to help. Curry County Art Center in Gold Beach opens next Sunday with a West Coast artists exhibit and ongoing arts and crafts instruction as a WPA project behind the high school.
Dora Gearhart spent the weekend at his Corvallis home while Mrs. Minard visited relatives in Coquille. Mrs. Barklew, staying with her mother Mrs. Minard, spent Sunday in Gravelford. Harold Shepherd and Calleen attended a Chinese Land program presented by Brewster Valley. Harvey Osbon and Ezra Watson led a Friendly Club day at Gail Bunch’s with a potluck.
Remote Mrs Chas Holmes of Bridge spent Wednesday with Mrs I B Engl and Ezra Zinn returned from Mast hospital after several weeks. Noble Walker and family visited Camas Villey Jess Griffey in Myrtle Point. Mabel and Jessie Griffey, while in town for high school, returned home for the weekend. Elva Cribbins visited Mrs Ivan Cribbins. Alton Sydnam and Gilbert Wyrick visited Myrtle Point. W R Cribbins dined with Tony Barkley in Cement Creek. Mason Davidson and the Bryants visited I B England. Bryants plan to move to Canyonville this week.
Mr and Mrs William Watson called on Mrs Katherine Train last Thursday. Henry Harris visited relatives and attended a Halloween program in Myrtle Point. The district hosted multiple family visits including the Triggs, Zumwalt, and Mann households with various weekend calls and farm work noted.
Bald Hill Sunday dinner guests included Mrs. Florence Schuster Barbara and Mary Catters, Miss Minette Bell and Oliver Bigelow family from Marshfield, and others from Coquille and Myrtle Point. Other visitors: Dave McNair and the McNair family, A B Crawford family, and Mrs. Wrilliam Schellhammer with Miss Minette Bell.
Five people were involved in an automobile crash Sunday night on the John Breuer place near Myrtle Point. Clarence Grubb drove over soft shoulder, the car rolled three times and slid down a 30 foot embankment before skidding to a stop. Breuer and Verne transported the injured to Mast hospital. Grubb suffered the only serious injuries, others had painful bruises and shaken nerves.
Bancroft Mr and Mrs Lyle Hardman visited the Mark Hardman home along with Mr and Mrs E. E. Evernden, Ernest, and Harland Evernden and Floyd Evernden party from Myrtle Point visited Joe Evernden in Bandon. Pettengill family returned to Boeeburg after a week at J Frank Little. Horace Ames and Mrs Ot Medick from Powers joined Circles Warner. Merk Hardman and Mrs Lyle Herdman with Mary and Evelyn traveled to Coquille on business.
Lee and Harold Dick with Donna and Douglas are planning to stay several weeks at the Walter Schroeder home. Walter Schroeder and Evelyn Benham visited J Harry Druliner and S D Clark homes. Harold Dick will stay at the Schroeder home to care for things while Schroeder travels. Lars Gisholt of Coquille and Josephine Neal of Myrtle Point were married Saturday by Justice Clarence Barton in Coquille.
The society pages report a Wednesday dessert bridge hosted by Mrs H H Thomas with Mrs Elmer Knight high and Mrs Howard Whitaker second. Other guests include Mesdames Paul McElwain, Elton Schroeder, Ralph Whitaker and Austin Dodge.
McKinley and his son Jay visit this week. Milford Mast returns from Allegany work. Charles Thomas hosts Bod Mee Ket Sherer and Mrs Kermit Shepherd of Coquill. Lyman Kings and Lee Hatfields spent the afternoon making apple cider at the Hatfield. Charles Freeman visited the community.
Mr and Mrs OE Rew hosted a series of visitors including Mrs Ward Evans and Mrs W Roy Mast with groups from Coquille Arago Myrtle Point and San Francisco among others for a community gathering. The attendees listed include Lloyd Davenport Shirley Ern est Frank Larson Linda Larry J A Davenport Jerene Joan H R Haughton Kenneth Delos Ben Reed and Donald Amy Bill Davenport and Phyllis Belloni among others.
A miscellaneous shower for Mrs Glen Hutton was held last Thursday evening at the Ray Paces with Nate as host. Guests included about 3 attendees and gifts and refreshments were served. Local notices mention church services at the Church of the Brethren in Myrtle Point and visits from neighbors in Coos River.
