The Myrtle Point Ministerial Association sponsors released time religious education for grades 5 through 13 starting Tuesday Nov 12. Courses cover Christian Marriage modern science Bible and occult and life of Jesus with Parables for lower grades. High school to meet at Christian Church junior at Episcopal Church.
Myrtle Point Day Care Center announced sponsorship of the Special Milk Program to provide free milk to eligible children. The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 36 of Coquille will hold its Veterans Day breakfast November 11 at 3 p.m. at the Colony in Myrtle Point with honored guests the amputees? Actually the text notes guests of morning are the "apetags" and asks donations for the Gift Shop. Coos County voters backed Democratic candidates in statewide races, with Packwood defeated in Coos County and Straub carrying the county, Weaver and Stevenson winning local offices, and bond issues for a juvenile shelter approved while jail bonds failed.
Wilberger was re elected mayor of Myrtle Point after polling 420 to 352 against Leo Schmit. In council races Dan Woolley led five hopefuls with 686 votes, while Mert Miller and another candidate finished with 449 votes apiece to fill two seats.
Douglas Beach of Warner Cable Oregon announced Myrtle Point’s cable system will add an electronic weather and message center. The unit will show current weather on the upper screen and a lower split message center, with viewing on Channel 3 by late December.
Public notices outline regular city council meetings on the first and third Mondays at 1:80 pm in Covele chambers. The Port of Coquille River commission meets on the third Tuesday at 8 pm. Deyville Point District 41 School Board holds meetings on the second and fourth Mondays at 6 pm in the 212 Spruce St administration building. In election results Jim Chapel received 447 votes and Ed Kirkpatrick 360.
The Bobcats travel to Coquille to face the Red Devils in a Sunset Conference game at 8 p.m. Both teams sit 4-4 on the season with 1-2 and 2-1 league records respectively. Bobcats miss junior Ray Anderson due to injury.
Oregon joins about 43 states observing Veterans Day on November 11, not October 28. The holiday is set for site employees, counties, cities, banks, schools, and colleges with observances statewide. In Myrtle Point and nearby, veterans plan local remembrances as Albany holds parade and Portland hosts a 24 hour flag watch.
Myrtle Point High School Music-Drama dept prepares for November 14 opening of You're a Good Man Charlie Brown. Cast reshuffle includes Bob Whitsett as Charlie Brown and Harry Myers as Snoopy, with Alan Brown Linus and Beck y Baker Sadie G as Patty. Performances November 14 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. and November 17 at 2:30 p.m. in MPHS Auditorium. Admission Adults 98 cents. Students 1.50. Children under 7 free.
