E M Bud Griffin proprietor of Griffin's Farm Supply won the Myrtle Point mayoral race with 443 votes to Ann Roush's 325 across three precincts 60 55 and 69. Council race had Curt Beckham 549 Harold Rushing 490 Roland Leep 436 and Del Greer 359 with three seats. Beckham also led county state and national totals.
Jaycee buck derby chairman Bill Lewellen announced the winners. Dr. R. P. Whittaker of Myrtle Point captured first prize a .306 Remington rifle for a 170 lb dressed buck. Tony Barkiecy of Myrtle Point won a 35MM slide camera for a 19 inch horn spread. Al Neimi of Myrtle Point took a Coleman camp store for the smallest buck 58 lbs.
Final score printed 14 to 7 in Brookings over Myrtle Point at Crescent City last Saturday amid protest chatter. Brookings opened with a controversial handoff to a guard.
