The North Forks river jammed with logs from flood waters after heavy rains. The L. B. and L. Logging Co reports over 10 million feet in the East Fork with other operators adding several million more. Total log drive expected around 18 million feet with logs due at the forks early this afternoon.
Senior high students may enter two new National Graphic Arts Education Association contests for prizes including war bonds. Entries, drawn from cooperating high schools, will be mailed to NGAEA in Washington, with four drawings and two essays per school. Deadline is midnight December 31, 1943.
Robert Peel son of Mrs L A LaFlamme called his mother from New York City during a seven day furlough from New York City College where he studies engineering. The Christmas Benefit Show for the Children’s Fare Home will be hosted by the W T U at Christier church parlors on Friday afternoon November 12. Contributions of useful items for the children are requested. Refreshments will be served. Sheriff William Howell escorted two men to Salem for boarding as E Bland’s case proceeds.

Roy Osborne reports his first cruise in Merchant Marine service and contact with his brother Bill from San Diego. Mrs Orvil Haga and daughter Nancy plan several weeks in California including Paso Robles and San Francisco before visiting the south.
A wartime radio broadcast report from Lt Herbert Evans recounts a pilot who was shot down and evacuated, noting morale-boosting home-front messages. Evans quotes officers on the front line urging perseverance and hinting at gradual progress toward eventual victory.
Vern Magill trapped a cub bear on his Middle Fork farm last Wednesday after the young bear killed three sheep. The mother bear roamed in the brush nearby during a foggy morning. Robert J. Slagi of Powers completed training at the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Chicago and was advanced to fireman first class. He will join a ground crew to keep navy planes in repair and flying condition. Barzee arrived here with his wife and child, spending time with ANG.
The Bobcats host Reedsport for their final home game this Saturday at 2 00 pm in a return matchup after earlier season win 18 to 0 at Reedsport. North Bend officials Lil labold Bros. will work the game.
A 628 pound black bear was trapped on the Myrtle Creek Middle Fork trip and brought in by Clarence Mullins. A second bear, also captured, is blamed as a longtime public nuisance to ranchers. Nine bears have been killed that summer, marking one of the worst seasons for sheep-killing bears, with no sheep losses attributed to coyotes or bobcats so far.
