Asphaltum plugs eighty feet at Fat Elk well
Drilling at the Fat Elk Oil and Gas Co. well in Fat Elk valley paused last week awaiting ten inch casing from Long Beach. Pressure from below pushed asphaltum eighty feet into the casing, halting operations. Workers report the find as encouraging and expect resurfacing of drilling once the casing arrives later this week. The well stands at 1306 feet with derrick work ongoing.

Garden Club Sees Growing City Interest
About fifteen members met in City Hall for the garden club Monday evening. Mrs. Fel sher was named decorating chair for Chautauqua and members were asked to donate flowers daily. A M Cooper spoke on flowers this season with care tips. The club gains traction evidenced by nicer yards rock gardens and pools, and more members are urged to join.

City to Observe Memorial Day Tomorrow
The Decoration Day exercises move from Hiland theatre to the Union High School auditorium due to talking pictures. Program starts at 10 00 with George Sid my 8 as speaker. Ex servicemen visit Myrtle Point and Norway cemeteries for services and grave decorations. A firing squad will salute at each cemetery. Homes close for the day.
