Myrtle Point paid respects to G. A. R. members and veterans of earlier wars with a Decoration Day program at the union high school auditorium. Sidney S. George of the American Legion spoke, music by a local quartet and piano, and veterans including Endicott, Hatcher, and O'Brien attended along with the Oregon gunner John Felsher. Graves were decorated at two cemeteries followed by a community dinner in Schroeder hall.

Word from Powers reports artist and Spanish War veteran Joseph Huspeski died suddenly on his heavy end 15 miles south of Powers. He and his wife lived on a Powers Shake trail homestead for about 15 years, loving nature. The body was brought to Powers for burial in Hayes cemetery after a funeral held there.

Drilling to Resume at Fat Elk Well Friday
Fifteen hundred feet of 10 inch casing arrived in Coos Bay harbor for the Fat Elk Oil and Gas company well in Fat Elk valley. Workers hauled the casing to the site as the derrick was reinforced and the well bailed to the bottom clearing asphaltum. The casing now extends to 2700 feet and men at the site report improved oil indications as drilling deepens.
