Antique Car Show Downtown Set June 27 by Retailers
More than 80 owners of antique cars were invited to display downtown Myrtle Point on Saturday June 27. Cars from up to 1926 will be shown on Spruce street with trophies for three age groups and a longest distance prize. Modern counterparts may be shown alongside older models as dealers join the event.

Memorial Day service sponsored by the American Legion and VFW in Lennherr Pioneer Park opens to the public at 9 30 a m Saturday May 30 in Myrtle Point. Rev Lloyd Pounds will open the program with Rev Mayhew as speaker as the gun salute flag ceremony and band music are planned.

Baptist Vacation Bible School Starts June 1 at Myrtle Point
Myrtle Point Baptist church prepares for a week long Vacation Bible School directed by Mrs Jane Northup. Classes run 9 to 12 with children aged four to 13 invited and no pre registration required. A family demonstration is set for Friday June 5 at 7 30 p.m. Theme is Around The World With Christ.

Myrtle Crest High Second in Coos County Track Meet
Myrtle Crest High finished second at the Coos County Track Meet in North Bend on May 22, scoring 6 points to Marshfield 136 2 3. Other participants included Florene Reedsport North Bend Coquille Empire Powers Bandon Coos Catholic Charleston and Bunker Hill. Dennis Willinge set a shot put record in class 3 Randy Stewart ran the 330 yard dash in class 1 and Dan Brown posted the 390 yard dash in class 3 records. This is Myrtle Crest’s second straight second place in the county.

Summer Baseball Starts June 10 in Myrtle Point
The city recreation program led by Chuck Humble begins Wednesday June 10 at the Fairgrounds ball field. Age groups report for baseball at specific times, with Babe Ruth players at 2:30 p.m. A county Babe Ruth league starts the following week, basketball runs Monday evenings, and free Red Cross swimming lessons start July 13 at the Coquille pool with a small fee for use.

Officers were elected for installation by district president Miss Irene Burr on June 18 in Coquille. City Budget Approved With Small Levy Reduction
The city budget passed by the budget committee and city council after a brief session at city hall lowers the tax levy to 65 467 from 67 884, a reduction of 2 417. The budget calls for publication mid June and a public hearing July 6 at 7 30 p m. News notes detail increases in street maintenance and wage costs plus funding for room remodels and door installation in the City Council Chamber.
Rabies Clinic Set June 12 Countywide
Coos County to hold a rabies immunization drive for dogs and cats on Friday June 12 from 6 to 9 PM at the Myrtle Point fire hall. Veterinarians, Boy Scouts and PTA volunteers will staff the event with vaccines priced at one dollar per pet. county sanitarian John Huffman notes the county has not yet hosted a rabies clinic.
