School playground funds to be built for future use

Trustees decided insufficient operating funds for a supervised summer playground and delayed purchasing new equipment. Treasurer George Linn reported 4186.54 on hand at year end with 236.56 from carnival and other small receipts. Committees formed to reorganize plans and prepare fall activities for teachers and students.

Baccalaureate Service Honors Myrtle Point Graduates

A large congregation gathered at the Church of the Brethren for Myrtle Point High School’s baccalaureate. Rev Wilmer A Briggs preached on "Three Possible Ways to Live" urging adoption of Christlike paths as the key to happiness and success. The service featured hymns, scripture, prayers, solos, and a program led by Rev A Theodore Smith and Rev Marton Stern with student performers.

Annual Poppy Sale In Myrtle Point This Weekend

The annual Poppy sale is set for Friday and Saturday in Myrtle Point May 27 and 30. The campaign began in 1982 under the American Legion to aid veteran welfare and rehabilitation. In 1949 the group aimed to sell 20 million poppies made by disabled veterans, with proceeds supporting disabled veterans.

Petitions for three candidates have been received for Rural school board directors. Herman Brelage from Gunny Hill Zone B, David Philpott and Cedric Croes Riverton Zone C are candidates. Election held with the annual meeting on June 20 in each district within Zones B and C. No petitions yet for Non-High director on June 4. incumbent Ivy Frye. A state driver license examiner will be on duty in Myrtle Point at city hall on Wednesday June 1 1949 from 10 a m to 3 p m. Applicants should contact the examiner early to complete their licenses or permits with minimal delay.

George Linn was elected president of the Myrtle Point Lions Club at a meeting held in the Myrtle Motel banquet room.
