High School Band Earns Two Minute Penalty at State Contest
Amy Davenport reports the High School band traveled to Klamath Falls on Friday and Saturday the 13th and 14th for the Oregon State Music contest. A Greyhound bus chartered for most students. others used private cars. Chaperones included Misa Glenn, Mr Beckham, and Mr Arnold Melby. The group performed as part of the Class A contest, with a post event dance for all participants. Myrtle Point High’s band closed the program Saturday around 6 20 pm playing The Traveler The Storm King and The Gypsy Festival Overture. The band received a two minute penalty, noted as favorable given larger schools’ participation, and prepared for a clinic later addressing brass and chimney issues.

Leland Harry Killed in Logging Camp Accident
Leland Harry 28 son of Mrs. Violet Harry of Myrtle Point was killed Friday afternoon at 3:90 in a logging camp accident at the Bene Mountain camp of Coos Bay Logging Co. near Remote while yarding legs on a car. He died before aid arrived, funeral held Monday in Myrtle Point with Rev Roy K Reed officiating. He was the oldest of 10, survived by seven brothers and two sisters.

Carnival Showman Bitten by Rattlesnake at Fairgrounds
Donald Kingsley age 44 of Douglas Greater Shows was bitten twice by a rattlesnake Monday afternoon at the Coos County Fair grounds. He ran to the Mass hospital where Dr. Reber treated him. Kingsley is recovering and left the hospital Wednesday.
